Default Re-entry Seminar

There is a re-entry seminar being held at the University of Indianapolis October 7th @7 PM. The seminar is being taught by Dr. Richards who severd time in a federal prison. He is a distinguished author, and he is doing the seminar on one of his newest books, Beyond Bars. The seminar is free.

Dr. Richards helps exiled citizens with their education and helps returning citizens gain a foothold in academia. He is an awesome example for prisoners and those who love them.

I have talked to a few members about this seminar all ready. I wasn't sure if I should make it public, but it looks like there will plenty of room for everybody.

Ex-cons are especially encouraged to go as well as anybody who has an interest in criminal justice.

I have attached a flier, so you can learn more about it.

Here is a link to the school of Criminology which Dr. Richards heads:

http://www.convictcriminology.org/

The link also mentions the Beyond Bars book he will be speaking about.

This is an amazing opportunity for us.

Sorry I've been lacking in posts. As some know, I have been going through some things.

God bless.

We have missed you around here! I would encourage everyone in and close to Indy to go to this. I have read the book that will be spoken about and I promise that you will not be disappointed. I am going to do my best to make it, but as I said, my on-call work schedule puts a damper on my enthusiasm. If my desire to be there were enough to get me there I would be set!

I appreciate your messages. I'm sorry I haven't been around here enough to make good of them.

That is a good question, and I appreciate it. I do believe we are trying to have the university record the seminar. If not, Lela is going to have one of her children record the seminar. Indiana CURE will have a copy of the seminar one way or another.

As far as distributing the recording (DVD), I don't know the legality. I will look into it. However, for you, I'm sure I can get you a copy. We will work on that when the time comes.

I will also see if I can make the DVD viewable to other Prison Talk members in the same circumstance.

I was going to send you a private message and invite you personally.

Awesome question. Thanks.

Thanks Patch. You know you can come. Where I live, it is considered Kentuckiania. Start a carvan. I'll reserve a spot at the information table for PrisonTalk. You can travel as an offical spokesperson.

If I ever do receive info on any Kentucky happenings, I will do. Did you know Dr. Richards got his start at Northern Kentucky University?

He was also instrumental in changing the parole law in Kentucky. If you want to read his research paper, it is here:

http://convictcriminology.org/downloads.html

Scroll down to the paper Prison Release in Kentucky: A Convict Perspective on Policy Recommendations. You may download it freely there. I'd post it here, but I don't want to violate any copyright laws.

Dr. Richards is a down-to-earth person. Send him an email. If he won't come to his ol' stomping grounds, I'm sure he knows people in that area who will hook you up.

I talked to an ex-con not too long who Richard's helped get into a graduate program in southern Kentucky.

If I recall currently, you completed your masters degree. He'd love to have your scholarship. He may be able to open some doors for you.

Nice hearing from you again.

I'd love to come, but I don't think my PO will allow it. However, perhaps Dr. Richards will consider having a seminar in the Lousivile area. Wow! Lots of great articles in that link you provided, I had no idea there was such a diverse body of research out there. Thank You. As for "representing" PTO, that's against our Posting Guidelines, but I have given out some of the PTO flyers--mostly at the local jail when My Mr was there. I'll probably leave some in the waiting area of My Mr's prison as well--if we ever get visits.
