Default Great News about Our System

I read an article in my local news paper that was hard to believe. Indiana is taking steps to overhaul our sentencing guidelines. It has had a profound effect in other states.

I tried to find more specific info, but I wasn't able. I would like to keep a close eye on this strategy. I will read some of the reports from other states to get a better feel for what it will ultimately mean.

I encourage everyone to learn the players in this move especially our legislatures. Our voice does matter.

Here is a link to the article in the Star.

Soon, maybe our system will start to make more sense. Thank you Jesus.

God bless.

Here is a link to the press release by the governor. It provides info on what the agenda is and on who are the people involved in the study.

Take time to get to know them.

Although I am happy to see them looking into this, it seems a lot more could be done by listening to some of the families effected by the incarceration. I really think a lot of the re offenses could be stopped by just changing the way people are labeled for the rest of their lives making them nearly un-hireable and more willing to go back to a life of criminal activity. Take the felon name tag off the backs of those that really want to be productive citizens and are able to prove so through community service, lack of probation violations and such after a certain period of time. I hate that they have to wear their scarlet letter for as long as they live...totally not cool.
