Post Interstate probation

My fiancé is in Rogers state and his release date is in December, me and our daughter live a few states away from Georgia and he was living here with us before he got locked up in Georgia. We’ve been told he will be able to serve probation here with us and not have to stay in GA for more than a couple days when he gets released. But we don’t know if it would be better for him to apply for interstate while he is still incarcerated or just do it when he gets out and it would just take a couple days for it to get approved? Does anyone have any experience with this? PS he is not getting out on parole, he’s serving his full sentence and getting out on probation under Georgias first offender act

An Interstate Compact has to be approved and does take some time. He can apply for IC up to 120 days before release.

Each state has their own guidelines regarding release and reception of an inmate and you'll want to familiarize yourself with those specific to the states you're working with. For example, California will not release a parolee unless 100% of their restitution is paid.

You can read some FAQs about IC here.

I know when my son was going to be released that his counselor asked for an address where he'd be living. He was to be released in February & he had to give her an address by October if it was going to be interstate compact. He was going to be on probation once released. Since he was staying in GA, he was able to give the new address in December. His counselor is the one he should ask & will do the paperwork for the transfer.
