I went on jail for a weekend in Alabama in 08. Long story short there was a man who had been officially released almost 4 months prior! But because he didn't have an address THEY WOULDNT LET HIM OUT!! I don't know if this is "common practice" but beside meals and a roof I would much rather be homeless than in prison/jail. PLZ REPLY ( would like to know if this is common) -MIKE

I don't have links handy but have read about more than one case like that.

That sounds more like jailhouse rumor than fact...only way that makes sense is if they were a civil commitment sex offender that had progressed enough to have private residence privileges and, absent an address, would be in a secure facility.

I know the bop has been cited in federal court for failing to release many inmates when their sentences were completed. There may be some maliciousness involved, but more often it sounds like incompetence to me. If you are held in prison or jail illegally, hire a lawyer to file a motion to have you released, and then sue them.
