Before every state not listed gets questioned........

Are those the only 5 states covered by this manual?

Default Rap sheets, pardons, purges, US entry waivers

Since my last post, I have discovered a Toronto based nonprofit called Pardons Canada. It is online at www.pardons.org and the phone is 416 929 6011. They are streamlined to provide one stop help for criminal record questions. If you have been fingerprinted by the police, call them to find out how to access your record.
The cost to remove criminal records, is about C$450 and takes about 6 to 8 months..
If you have been charged with a criminal offense, whether or not you were convicted, you have a criminal record. It may affect your ability to get a job, get promoted, get Cdn citizenship, adoption/child custody, apartment rental, mortgage approval, educational opportunities, volunteer work, US employment, US travel entry, maybe other ways too.
It feels great to just put the past behind you.
So, for others out there, that is what I found.

Default Sealed records and expungements

Best thing to do for any state is look up your states statutes. They will explain what is and is not eligible for sealing/expungement and the basic guidelines (how long you have to wait) etc. You can often go to a state probation or DOC site and find info on restoration if it is available and as a last resort go to google type in "your state name + expungement" and see what you get. Some good, reputable civil rights attorney's offer free consultations to get folks started or look for a civil rights organization in your area who may be able to provide state specific information. Some states "restoration of civil rights" do not include the right to own firearms and I am amazed at the number of people whose first concern is owning guns....hellllllooooo, shouldn't your right to vote be most important so that you have a voice in ridding us of the morons who are keeping our laws in the dark ages? If you are charged under Federal laws - that's a horse of a totally different color and you may as well get a lawyer to help you jump through the hoops on that one.

Default doomed!

What's the sense of cleaning up the state record? (It can't truly be done in many states.)

Whats the sense if the federal record will always be there, and that's where the background databases get their data feeds from.

Coincidentally, go ahead and google yourself. How can one clean the arrests, sentencing out of the newspapers etc.

doomed!

No, not necessarily doomed. Time can help cure the google problem. While I don't have a criminal record, at one time I was a very high profile individual. I could google my own name and come up with literally thousands of links, pages, references ... all over the world. Today I can google my name, and almost nothing comes up. And as for background checks, I'm going through one right now, and they only check the county lived in for the past seven years, no federal check ... so, it's not hopeless.

When I google my name, the only thing even close to me that comes up is my late uncle's obit and funeral notices. He has the same name as me.

I know I'm out there somewhere because my crimes were all over the news, but if I can't find my own info, then it's highly unlikely anyone else can.

Credit/background checks not withstanding of course.

BTW, anyone looking for expungement info in the US, see below.
criminal.findlaw.com/crimes/expungement/

I found that link from this one:
www publicrecordcenter.com

Just click your state in the middle column.
