If he has custody points that qualify him for a minimum security camp
http://www.fd.org/docs/select-topics...ch=designation

he may only be reporting to the FCI Medium for his initial processing, on his way to the camp. Many prison complexes have only one R&D, receiving and discharge where everyone is processed.

If he does have camp points, but is assigned to a higher security level prison, he needs to make a request to his unit team that he be moved to the correct prison level. He should ask them for a copy of his custody points computation sheet so he can appeal any inaccuracies too.

Default FCI - Tucson

Thank you, fbopnomore. FCI-Tucson says it's a medium facility with a detention center. USP-Tucson has the camp adjacent to it. We know someone else that was designated to the camp specifically so that's why we are worried. Do you know what the "detention center" is? Perhaps he'll be there? Maybe the camp is full? He'll be serving just 3 months so i don't know how long it would take for them to transfer him if he does end up in the medium facility. Thank you again for your response, it's greatly appreciated!

He may well stay at the detention center for such a short sentence. FDCs are used for the most part for temporary housing of inmates with court dates, or those who are in transit to a different prison. I was in two of them, Miami and Philadelphia and they were both the same, high rise, self contained buildings where everyone pretty much remained in their own housing unit all the time. Food and commissary were delivered to each housing unit. There was an enclosed recreation area, a small library and book cart, a chapel and washer/dryers for inmate use. 2 person cells with one bunk bed that were locked for counts and over night. Telephones were available once I was activated on the bop inmate telephone system by the counselor. It was necessary to purchase an FM Walkman radio from the commissary to be able to listen to the community TV audio.

The detention center is for pretrial. I don't want to go into a lot here but you can pm me for other information. Having low points does not stop the bop from designating you up 2 levels.

USP Tucson may be on lockdown due to an assault incident yesterday (Friday). Call before going to visit.

Nobody has posted here in nearly 2 years and that specific post is over 5 years old. You probably won't get an answer but you might have some luck googling the date and the prison.

Question Any info about food/activities at Tucson Federal Prison Camp ?

Hi - My friend is headed to the minimal security camp from the Florence, Arizona CCA (Correction Corporation of America) Central Arizona Detention Center. I'll post what I know about that place elsewhere. I am wondering if anyone can give me clues about what he can expect in the Tucson camp, such as how many beds to a cell, how plentiful is the food, are the cells freezing like in Florence, is there a library or just a book cart, what sort of exercise do they get, what kind of work or education programs are there, your main complaints, and any surprisingly good things. I halfway wish he was going to the low security federal prison in Safford, AZ instead because I heard they still get fruit, sugary sodas, and have weightlifting there.
