Default My LO is at CDC in Nashville, they stopped giving him his medication.

My significant other is asthmatic and had been getting an inhaler to use but was told this morning he could not get it anymore. Does anyone know how this kind of stuff works or who I should talk to to get this straightened out?

Default How do you deal with medical treatment issues?

My bf has asthma and had been getting an inhaler to use but was told this morning he could not have it anymore with no reason given. I called the jail and was transferred to the health services administrator, I left a voicemail for her. I then called his lawyer who said he would call my bf's case worker.

Has anyone had to deal with similar issues on your man's behalf because they were not getting necessary medication or treatment? If so any advice is appreciated.

I don't know but the usual advice I see here includes making sure he's fully using the inmate grievance system. If I understand what people have been saying, it's not enough but it's something you have to do. It creates a paper trail and paper trails have power.

First of all he needs to sign a hippa naming you and whoever so the medical staff can even talk about anything with you. Even then you might have problems getting a straight answer. I'm sorry your dealing with this.

For staying alive in the meantime, does he have access to coffee? Caffeine is really really close chemically to another chemical called "theophylline" which is an asthma treatment.

No substitute for the real thing of course!

If not coffee, then chocolate, the darker the better. Also has theophylline.

Thanks y'all. He did get his medicine back. Apparently the med orders are only good for 30 days then they have to fill out another sick call form. We were just not aware of the procedure.

I'm glad you figured out the paperwork issues, and he has his necessary asthma meds again.

Default Medical problem need suggestions

My brother has had problems with his jaw, over the past year and half. It has gotten to the point over the last 4 to 6 months that he could not eat anything, could not open nouth at all. Went to medical many times and told nothing was wrong. My mother enailed main medical office in nashville when we went and saw him 8 months ago and seen how he was looking. Then 6 weeks later we went for another visit and he was even worse so i then called the main office myself and they said they would check into it. They finally got him out to a real dr, a specialist, which ordered a prescription and a ct. They never got his med filled for him but did take hin for ct a month later. As soon as he returned to facility from ct scan they sent him immediately to er then to Nashville hosp. Needless to say he is suffering with cancer which looks as if they have let it go so long the prognosis is not looking good. He now has feeding tube and tracea. I believe if they had treated him a year and half ago he would not be in the shape he is now. He was in nashville 3 weeks before they even contacted us about his situation. I had to sit his 11 yr old son down and explain to him what he was going to see before i took him to see his daddy. The child lost his mother before he was a year old due to drugs and now because of the states neglect he is going to loose his daddy 😢

Welcome to Prison Talk. I'm sorry for what happened. It won't help your brother, but you and/or he should talk to a lawyer anyway.
