I was just reading an account of the execution of Lisa Montgomery today and it said that there was 65 people on the "execution team"... I just cannot figure out what so many people have to do in the process?? I would have guessed a max of 10 or 12 people involved. But 65.... kind of shocks me! Can anyone explain?
The bop often decides that if anything requires 10 staff members, then 50 would be 10 times better. As an observer, much of what they do in almost every instance made very little sense to me.
The warden at Oregon State Penitentiary who supervised that state's last two executions told me he spent $85,000 in overtime training costs because the eyes of the country are on these tragic events and they worry about botched executions. There is much than can go wrong with the administration of the drugs and how the inmate is handled during those final days. I think prisons are in CYA on those days and everyone gets involved...
