Default Intro--beachgypsy from California

Hi everyone. God I don't even know how to begin, I'm still trying to make sense of this new world I find myself in. I don't even recognize my own life. The only thing that I have no doubt with, is the love that is between my husband and I. That I am sure of, everything else, is a big question mark. It's not that I used to live in a black and white world, but it used to make some sense. I felt like there were things I could count on. Now, I wake up each day and my first thought is, he's not here with me. It takes all my strength to get up and put one foot in front of the other. My whole perspective of what living is has changed and continues to change. I have no idea what "normal" even looks likes anymore. So, thank you to everyone here who are bravely stepping ahead, giving advice to those of us so new. I will someday do the same.

Welcome to Prison Talk. Life for everyone who gets sucked into the prison experience is definitely changed. All you can do is the best you can do under the circumstances. Support your loved one but also take care of yourself so you can. Don't be afraid to seek help if you are dealing with depression that is serious enough to become a problem in your day to day life.

It probably won't get any easier for either of you, but it should become your new normal over time. You are definitely not alone, so ask your questions here on PTO and you will receive positive support from members who are dealing with the same nightmare.

Thank you, in a way it does help knowing others are there to talk to who understand without having to explain.

HI beachgypsy,
I am sorry you're going through this but glad you found us. I remember when I started down this road, I felt just as lost. I am here to say, you will become more familiar with it as time goes on.
I hope you take some time to go through the California page and the Husbands and boyfriends page.
When no one else understood in my day to day life and passed judgment, I found solace in these boards. You are not alone. We are here. Welcome

I do have a question. How can I post a blog here? Writing is cathartic for me and on nights I can't sleep it would be nice to come here to write.

In my case, it is my son who is incarcerated - for about the 5th time. He is mentally ill and if he would get the help he needs, the medications he needs to be on, I think things would change. That said, my heart goes out to you. I cannot relate totally to your experience being as it is not my spouse who is in prison, but I have said a prayer for you and will continue to pray for all those in your situation. The first time my son went in, it was a total gut wrench for me. I became severely depressed. I cannot imagine it would be any different for you. Be sure to take care of yourself. If you are feeling depressed (how can you not?), get some counseling, some kind of help. If you cannot afford counseling, look for a minister or support group. Some on here may be able to help with that. Best wishes to you.
