The bop will pay for transportation from the prison to his release location, usually by bus. That will either be the judicial district where he was sentenced unless he was able to get a change of release location pre-approved.

When I was released, R&D found some "donated" clothing for me, but it included coveralls that were 6 sizes too big, which I had to hold up with a shoelace belt.

It will be wherever he was sentenced. If you want him to be released to a different location, he needs to submit a "change of release location" to his case manager now. They will send it to the new US Probation office with a list of reasons why the change will be beneficial. Things like you live there, more family support, jobs, whatever. If the request is approved, he will be released there, either to a half way house or when his sentence is completed. His supervised release will also be supervised by the new office. If not, he will be sent to the judicial district where his case was decided.

To be allowed to pick him up at the prison also requires the prior approval of his case manager. It will be written in his unescorted furlough instructions. You will need to show a current driver's license, registration and proof of insurance before he will be allowed to leave with you.

So I read thru your posts while Iíve been driving sounds like you made some progress reaching BOP but they lied most likely. FIRST, in talking to the woman to runs Haven of Rest where I stay, something did happen at the prison on Sunday. She attends church with all the people in this town and they all said the state police even had to be dispatched to the prison etc on Sunday. The timeline fits, but lets be thankful, I just donít like hearing lifeflight was dispatched. At this facility, they tend to banner up almost exclusively youíll notice to alert us that an approaching weekend will be a a no visit weekend. If it goes up before Thrs Its how we know this may be a longer haul now. If they put it up on a Monday, which is rare... its to say stop making future travel plans its going to be awhile. Usually you see it go up Thrs morning when theyíve tried to give them a chance and it didnt work so its now over the weekend. In this case I suspect someone told you guys maybe Wed and then got in trouble so now they put banner up today - so they wonít have people make travel plans and then call all mad THATíS what that banner is all about. Itís to keep them from getting MORE angry I spent money on travel grrrr calls. But I am noticing theyíve become slow about taking it down on Mondays when they come up, or forget about it altogether sometimes. These are based on years of observations and talking to folks who have notice how this Warden does things.
Now about release, in my experience, your LO will always be released on the proper date unless soemthing VERY major endangering them occurs. I hate to tell you, but yea sometimes they are let out in their prison garb. I have a fed friend who got out a few months back and they pushed him thru the front door with a small amount of money and prison clothes. He walked across the street to a mall, bought a sweatsuit and sat on a bench in shock for. awhile before calling his buddy for help. David (our moderator) I bet you have some stories for us ) But I realize the hard part will be your guy wonít be calling you. But he will reach you the second he steps out. Many buy a disposable cell phone. David am I suppposed to say that LOL!Who doesnt do that!? It gets thrown away the second its not allowed. They have to because pay phones dont exist anymore. Phone & email inside are shut down days in advance anyways - they usually rely on buddies to communicate home at last minute. Most get a bus ticket to half way house or home right FBOPNOMORE ? My friend was a non citizen seeking protection in our country so its rather unique. Most of the other guys have 5 year probation so the BOP wants them landing somewhere they know where they are.
Iím SO sorry ladies can you tell Iím lonely at a rest stop LOL. You guys give me something to do when he is gone for these long periods of time. If its too long you guys can erase it I wonít be insulted. Ok so here is to hoping this is not a weeks long situation but just days long, and that everyone is safe.
Omg thank u soooo much for this info i didnt know who would know how the halfway house situation goes. I dont even care if they send him out nake as long as he get out of this place. And i pray he can call me from a phone. I would like to know what bus station if hes allow to tell me or if anyone can throw a hint at me lol. We all gotta do what we gotta do as far as those burner phones go. And try not to get down about the lock down think of it like this at least u were able to visit him before the lock down. Think of all the positive that u can ok. And AGAIN I REALLY APPRECIATE THE INFO U HAVE GIVEN ME. I HAD NO ONE TO ASK OR THAT KNEW ABOUT RELEASE OR HALFWAY HOUSE. u have a safe trip home.

I received my written unescorted furlough instructions as I was leaving the prison, not before. They included the details of my trip which included where I was departing, and where I would arrive. Since I took AMTRAK (at my expense) there was only one station for each city, but I have no idea how much detail is included for bus trips.

Once away from the prison, he should be able to call you since there are still pay phones in all of the bus stations.

No, not even the amount of money the bus ticket would have cost them. It's either the way they choose, or you pay the entire cost.

I figured something bad was up since carlosbride posted state police and life flight was at the facility this past Sunday. My Lo told me on the phone prior to Lockdown on Sunday that something happened in the yard which made them get locked down on Saturday but they let them back up. It's horrible something happened let's all hope it's only a week! I send pictures through Free Prints so not sure about postal mailing them.
