Default Telecommunications bill could lead to a misdemeanor for incarcerated

"TELECOMMUNICATION DEVICE" bill has been read and in the Committee on Corrections and Penology.

Bill No. S0804

This bill, if passed, will make it a punishable offense and inmates will receive an additional 6 months to a year added onto their sentences.

Inmates will pay Lifers to claim the phone. This Bill will only help lifers profit, adding a year onto 4 life sentences. . If there is a way, inmates will exploit it.

What a waste of legislation. If they want to put teeth in the law, then it HAS to be a felony both to possess AND provide a cell phone, and for those already serving a sentence, it HAS to be stacked upon the current sentence.

This was all politics, not about reform.
