Default Im Grateful for Sobriety

Come June 2nd I will have 3 years clean and sober.
This time around I got honest with myself and began working with my biggest issue, the one that was the scariest, my Transsexualism.
I realized if I wanted to stay sober I had to be true to myself. I joined a Trans Support Group, got a therapist who specialized in gender issues who directed me to a doctor who put me on hormones.
None of this could have happened if I were drinking and using. I would have never of found the happiness and joy that I experience now if I stayed drunk and high.
Sobriety literally opened up the world to me and I got to see I am responsible for my life and my happiness and no one else. No one can fix me, only I can.
Staying sober and being honest and being of service to others has given me a life i could never have imagined in my wildest dreams.
I am in a relationship with a man who is wonderful, kind, and caring to me. Ive never met anyone like him! We tell each other we are a gift to each other, I never felt loved by anyone in my life till he came along. He wouldnt be in my life if I wasnt clean and sober. He knows im in recovery and supports that 100%
Im no spring chicken and 3 years ago I thought life was pretty much over and as far as love... that would never happen. Surprise! I was so wrong.
I wouldnt trade my life today for any mind altering substance. This is the best high I've ever had thats for damn sure!
Dont give up, dont get discouraged, sobriety is the only way to go.
Its not always easy doing life sober, you get to feel everything, but its much easier than doing it the old way.
Im so graterful for the 12 steps, my sponser and my clean and sober friends.

Congratulations on nearly 3 years. For me, staying sober means bringing light to all the dark sections of my mind and it was not easy. So it is wonderful that you were able to face your fears. Good luck and may all the wonderful perks of sobriety keep going your way
