The photos don't show up. I myself have no idea how to attach photos here. Does anyone know which prison has a photo on the idoc web site? Is it Menard?

You know it is so weird because Western Correctional looks so much like Illinois River except the parking lot is like 100 yards further away, but otherwise the check in house and even the trees are in the same place. It is so freaky to have never seen Illinois River, but he just moved there and always been at Western and to think I was looking at Westerna nd had to double check the post.

I remember Western as being a lot of white concrete and very imposing.
I reread my post above about inmates might want to have drawings done of themselves. It could be misinterpreted. I am often horrified by the lack of privacy inmates have. They don't seem to care if they have their "permission" when they film them for documentaries.
Where was this other prison in Joliet? how long ago was it closed? The photos didn't look that old.

It has to be 4-5 years sine that place closed. He was in there and was transfered to Stateville like 6 months before it closed. The visits at Joliet were so much nicer and more comfortable. And the people were always really nice, and the guards in the visiting room were always friendly. It was ran way different the the Ville. Anyway, like I said 4-5 years maybe, don't remember exactly. It wasn't far from Stateville actually, over the bridge into Lockport and a couple miles south I can take you by there when you are in next if you really want to see it. It's just another da*n building with walls and bars

Hi,
Does anyone find it VERY strange and creepy there are no pictures of Tamms, not even on the internet. Only one small areo view. I noticed even when the employees have something (like a promotion etc) and the pictures are taken outside and you can only see a little bit of concrete. There is a sign at the entrance of the city that says "Welcome to Tamms, home of the first supermax (which by the way is a lie) A great place to live." If its so great why are they too ashamed to put pictures of it out?
Makes me sick!

Is this in the front part of the prison? Or is it in the back part in the supermaximum security part? The reason I am asking is I have a pen pal there and he is on high security. His cell is only 8x12 and the door is sort of like mesh, not like those. Oh I see that is a holding cell. But which part of the prison is it? The part when you first go in the inmates can go outside and play basketball etc. In the supermax part he is locked up 22 and 1/2 hours a day and their yard is 4 concrete 20 feet walls with razor wall over them. He gets 1/2 hour shower and around an hour yard time.
Thanks for info and the pics.

Great pictures of Tamms! Do you have any more pictures? I would like to see their cells (that they actually live in) if that is possible.

Thanks for sharing

My husband was in Joliet too. I think that it has been 4 years. We liked Joliet better too - more relaxed, CO's less hostile. He had a great job there too.

Does anyone have any recent pics of Menard? I have a son there and I now live in texas so it is not often that I am able to go see him. He has been in there for five years now and is only 21 years old. Although it tears my heart to know he is there, at least I can be aware of his surroundings. Thank you all for the pics I have seen on here.

I saw a young lad taking some photos of Menard when I was waiting outside for my friend to pick me up and the staff from the gatehouse came flying out and even tried to get the film from his camera!! It is illegal to take photos and, I believe, it does say that on signs outside. Just pointing out a fact as I don't want anyone to get into trouble.
