Connecticut Prison & Jail Visitation, Phones, Packages & MailTopics / Information relating to the Connecticut Department of Corrections and local & county Jail visitation, phone calls, mail, inmate care packages, etc.
I'm not sure you can. If you figure out a way, I'm sure there are a lot of people here who will welcome the information. Prisons have the attitude that they're not there to provide tip top medical, dental and eye care for prisoners. If the prison doctor were to say your husband needed to see a specialist, they might get him to one in their own good time, but I think it depends on whatever doctor the prison uses. Usually prison doctors don't make as much money as doctors in the mainstream, so consequently, prisons don't get tip top doctors to work for them as a rule. What will probably happen will be that he sees the prison doctor and the prison doctor will consult with a specialist, probably by phone, about what would be the best thing to do if the prison doctor doesn't have an idea himself, rather than your husband actually getting to see a specialist. If the prison doctor does feel like he or she can deal with the problem on his/her own, then they won't consult with the specialist. I know it's scary, but it's a sad fact of being in prison.
Joy - I hope you will contact the Jeff Dicks coalition. They work specifically with inmate medical care. Also, do you have a power of attorney for your husband? You really should get one. Might help you get more cooperation from the DOC.
