Default Sending him to hospital for tests, what can we do in addition to HIPPA?

My guys legs have been swollen, so I told him to sign up for infirmary. They did blood work and he is anemic. They will send him to a hospital for more tests. He is frustrated because he couldn't get many of his questions answered nor do I think he really knows what to ask. I told him to find out about a Hippa release for his brother. Anything else I should suggest? We are not married, so I'm not next of kin. His children are under 18, so it would be his brother.

Unless he had a regular doctor on the outside who has some sort of potential knowledge of what might have contributed, no, I don't have further suggestions.

Good luck!

No he doesn't have a regular doctor. Who know a prior to this the last time he went. The doctor did talk to him about losing weight. I'm hoping the salt intake from commissary foods are causing the swelling. Thank you for replying

I can't speak on NY, but I know in California inmates can order copies of their medical records. They pay for them, of course, but then they have the hard file to refer to. Those can be sent out to family or to their GP on the outside if they have one. That can help lessen misinterpretation.

I hope they can give him some relief soon.

YOur guy's brother (POA) can also request your guy's medical records directly from the hospital using his POA and the Hospital authorization to release medical records form. Ask for a certified copy.

You may have to pay for it, but it is worth it.

Ty I'll talk to him about getting the power of attorney as well. He is not out on bail, so there was no time to get things in order. Thank you

Hippa isn't going to help anything. He needs to make his brother his poa or make sure he has him sign something staying he can have access to all Medicle records etc. I don't think he can make decisions on what they should be doing to him medically. The prison makes those decisions.

Here in California we have what is called a Advance Health Care Directive. This allows the appointed person to make medical decisions for a person as well as be informed on all medical procedures
Here is a link that may help you with Advanced Directives for New York, https://www1.nyc.gov/site/doh/health...irectives.page
You may also want to look in to a Health Care Proxy https://www.health.ny.gov/profession...th_care_proxy/

Even if he is in custody there is Notary, that can notarize his signature
You can get a free Power of Attorney here for your state https://powerofattorney.com/new-york...orm-adobe-pdf/
There is also a Medical Power of attorney here also

That sounds like a normal prison medical decision. They could even save the cost of the multivitamin by telling him to "eat your greens".

Do you have any idea what his health history was? I hope it's not the kidney that causes the swelling.
