okay here is the story...... My fiance had to get the chaplins permission. So he sat in the church for 3 hours so he could talk to him after wards. He wrote the warden himself asking permission and the warden okayed it. I had to go down to the county clerks and pay 25.00 for the marriage lisence then i had to pay 30.00 for a chaplin to come in and do it. Then i payed for his ring and that was about it i think ummmmm..okay here is the story...... My fiance had to get the chaplins permission. S.okay here is the story...... You still CANNOT get married at both Stateville and Menard. Nothing has changed as far as those two prisons are concerned.

In Randolph County the problem is STILL that the County Clerk, Patricia Laramore, will not go to the prisons to do all the paperwork. She still insists she's not going to waste taxpayers money on 'convicts'.

how about the way they treat people like animals and animals better than people,,

thank God they allow them to get married,
I know it feels better to
have someone
even if he is locked up,
so it would feel even better
to have someone
if I was locked up.

Hi, my name is Tusonah and my life partner is serving his time in Stateville Prison. I just received a marriage package from him. The papers I got are pink in color and he has already filled in his information. It states that, I have to pay $40 for the marriage license, he has to pay $150 for the process, then I have to pay an additional $90 for the Chaplin. I don't understand, if they were not allowed to get married, why did I get this marriage package in the mail??

They are allowed to marry in Stateville. I am an Ordained Minister and I called to the prison myself cos, I was going to perform a ceremony... Everything is a go....

When did that start? Because I married my husband at Menard in '99 .. I'm not saying its not true, but I never knew that they could refuse anyone a marriage license.

HEY YALL,

I KINDA HAVE AN IDEA HOW TO GET MARRIED IN IL, BUT THERE ARE JUST A COUPLE THINGS THAT I NEED TO KNOW.
1ST, I KNOW THAT ILLINOIS RIVER CORRECTIONAL CENTER, THEY DONT HAVE A FULL TIME CHAPLIN, SO WE (CHRIS AND I) HAVE NO IDEA WHEN WE CAN GET MARRIED OR IF WE CAN. HE HAS A FRIEND THAT IS ALSO A INMATE THAT HAS HIS LICENCE TO PERFORE MARRIGES, CAN HE MARRY US? OR DO I HAVE TO WAIT FOR A CHAPLIN FROM THE PRISON TO PERFORM THE MARRIGE? 2ND I AM FROM CALIFORNIA AND STILL LIVE HERE. I WAS LOOKING AT THE POST AND READ A COUPLE TIMES THAT " YOU NEED A WITNESS", WELL SINCE IN 1859 MILES AWAY, I WASNT PLANNING TO BRING ANYONE WITH ME, SO I NEED TO? CAN I HAVE ONE OF HIS FRIENDS COME OUT AND BE A WITNESS FOR ME? 3RD, SINCE MY MARRIGE WILL BE IN ANOTHER STATE, WILL IT BE VALID HERE IN CALIFORNIA, AND IF NOT HOW DO I GO ABOUT MAKEING IT VALID. 4TH AND FINAL! SORRY GUYS:0 I KNOW THAT THE STATE OF ILLINOIS DOESNT ALLOW CONJICALS BUT AFTER YOUR WEDDING, DO THEY GIVE YOU TIME ALONE OR ANYTHING? THANKS FOR READING MY CONFUSION, AND IF ANYONE CAN HELP I WOULD GREATLY APPREIATE IT.

THANKS

Don't hold your breath waiting to get married anywhere in Illinois. The situation hasn't changed. there're very, very few weddings being allowed. And, Mande, before you write and tell me you got married, you're the only one we know of THIS YEAR and you were extremely lucky to get away with it.

I do know of one wedding that is to take place in the Federal prison in Marion,IL. My friend and her man are doing this on Feb. 4th. It took them only two weeks to be approved and they did not have any trouble. there is a new Warden and Caseworker there now so I guess things have changed.

That's a Federal prison and nothing to do with the State of Illinois. It's State run prisons that have a problem.

Sahar:

I got married at Vienna Correctional Center in June 2004 -- The pastor of the prison married us and did not charge anything (we sent hima love offering later at his church to say thanks) and I bought the ring in with me (gold band only -- no diamonds) -- the Johnson County clerk came to the prison the day before the wedding so we could sign the certificate (it cost $25) -- and then I got married the next day. I came from California and got married in Illinois and yes it is valid and legal in CA --

I was told early on when I joined PTO that my situation was very unusual so I don't know what has happened to anyone else.

P.S. -- When I went to visit my husband in December -- 2 couples got married that day -- for Christmas -

Keep trying...it is well worth it.

We are still waiting to get married at Illinois River but no Chaplain. A counselor made it clear that no marriages will take place until they hire a Chaplain. I still don't know if we can bring our own to perform the marriage. That's a good question to bring up so I'll have Mike ask his Counselor. No conjugal visits at IL River but it would be nice to have some time "alone" after the ceremony. Even 1/2 hour is good. Just imagine but I guess we can only dream for now.

that word NO to a stubborn so an so like me means maybe L.O.L ...... there must be a way around this problem of there being no chaplain...... what about people of different faiths , for example Islam ? they must have visiting Imams /or other faiths ministers at the prison?

Sahar, there are Imams at some prisons, I know there's one at Menard, but they're not allowed to marry anyone who isn't Muslim, and I know that applies to the Catholic priests, also.

thanks Rostonhall , we are both Muslim , but as yet its not decided if we should attempt to marry whilst he is in prison or wait, he still has 5 years left to serve, i feel in many ways being his wife would have more "clout" when dealing with officials etc ..... mind you that,s not the only reason for our wanting to marry
