Default The Flaw of a Woman

Hi everyone,

If any of you have spent time in the Federal Forums, you will know I am a regular contributor. What you may not know is that my wife is serving a 30 month sentence at Camp. This year was our first Christmas apart since my wife began her Federally Sponsored Vacation. It has been a difficult year, but particularly difficult this Holiday Season. Perhaps the most bothersome part was knowing I would not be able to give my wife anything this Christmas to show my love.

Then it occurred to me... I have advised others that the key to dealing with incarceration lays between your ears. The BOP may get your body, but they will never have your mind and/or soul unless you give it willingly. This made me think of all the ladies I have met since I began taking my bimonthly trips to visit. I have done this for almost a year. In doing so, I realized the majority of the women I have met at Camp were women much like my own wife. "Good people who made a mistake". These were not the "hardened criminals" one imagines when you think of "Prisoners". These were women, ladies if you will, who share a common thread, if only breifly.

What is to follow is a short story that I told my wife on Christmas Day as we sat together holding hands and remembering Christmases of earlier times. It was not a gift of silver or gold... but a gift from my hert to hers and a way to let her know I knew her soul.

The Flaw of a Woman
(A Story inspired by my wife)
By the time the Lord made woman, he was well into his 6th day and working overtime. As the Lord worked an angel appeared and asked “Lord, why are you spending so much time on this one”?

And the Lord answered:

Have you not looked at my spec sheet on her? She has to be completely washable, but not plastic,
have over 200 moveable parts, all replaceable.
She needs to be able to run on Dr. Pepper and leftovers,
have a lap that can hold 4 children and a dog all at one time,
have a kiss that can cure anything from a scraped knee to a broken heart, and she will need to be able to do it with just 2 hands”.

The angel was astounded at all of the requirements and said:
“Only two hands !? No way!

“And that’s just on the standard model” said the Lord.

The angel replied: “That’s too much work even for you Lord. Wait and finish her tomorrow”.

“No, I won’t !!” protested the Lord.
“I am far to close to finishing this creation that so mirrors my own heart. Did you know she can heal herself when she is sick and work an 18 hour day”.

The angel was amazed, he moved closer and touched the woman and said: “Wow, you have made her soooo soft, Lord”.

“She is soft”, the Lord agreed “but I have also made her tough. You have no idea what this creation can endure or accomplish”.

“Will she be able to think ?”, asked the angel.
The Lord replied,

“Not only will she be able to think, she will be able to reason and negotiate.”

It was about then the angel noticed something he had not seen on his first perusal of the women. Reaching out he touched the woman’s cheek. “Oops, it looks like you have a leak in this model, Lord. I told you that you were trying to stuff too much into this one”.

“That’s not a leak,” the Lord corrected, “that’s a tear !”

“But why…” asked the angel.

The Lord said, “The tear is her way of expressing her joy, her sorrow, her pain, her disappointment, her love, her loneliness, her grief, and her pride”.

The angel was impressed. “You are a genius, Lord. You have thought of everything. Perhaps this is why we all say you are perfect in every way. This woman is truly an amazing being.”

“And she is,” said the Lord, “Women have strengths that amaze men. They bear hardships and carry burdens, but they hold back their happiness, love, and joy.
They smile when they want to scream.
They sing when they want to cry.
They cry when they are happy and laugh when they are nervous.
They fight for what they believe in and stand up for justice.
They do not take NO for an answer when they believe there is a better solution.
They go without so their family can have.
They go to the doctor with a frightened friend.
They love unconditionally.
They cry when their children excel and cheer when their friends get rewards.
They are happy when they hear about a birth or a wedding.
Their heart aches at the death of a friend.
Their heart breaks for the losses of family, yet they stay strong when they think there is no strength left and
they know that a hug and a kiss can mend a broken heart.
Women come in all shapes, sizes, and colors.
They’ll drive, walk, run, fly, or crawl to show you how much they care about you and it is the heart of a woman that makes the world keep turning.
They bring joy, love, and hope.
They have compassion and ideals.
They give moral support to their family and friends.
Women also have vital things to say and to give.

The angel stood back and was amazed. He said to the Lord: “Everything human is flawed Lord, but you have made this woman perfect, just like you”.

NO, she is not perfect.” said the Lord, For all that a woman has and can do, she has but one flaw and that is….

She has forgotten her worth”.

Yes, women I believe have an inner strength that far surpasses the physical strength of men. Let's not forget that at times they can be, well you know what I mean.

WOW! That is one of the nicest things that I have ever heard! It's great to know there are guys out there who actually understand women. I think you must be as good-hearted as my Shawn! Believe me, that is saying a lot. I think someone needs to write a story like that for men like you and Shawn. Thank you sooo much! -Natalie

I have learned over the past few months we should never take things for granted. We have no promise of tomorrow. We should live everyday as if it were our last and to find some joy and love in each day.

This is for you Rhonda you were the perfect girlfriend.
I will always remember the day we met, we both knew from the moment we saw each other that we had found something special. The way you smiled at me and didn’t laugh at my off-key voice when I serenaded you. It was Herman Hermits “I’m into something good”
As long as I have breath I will never forget our first kiss on the shore of Lake Michigan. It was but the first on many kisses we would share over the years. But that kiss so full on love and innocence will live forever in my memories of you.
Rhonda you had that special smile, the one that you saved for me a smile that came from your heart and soul. How your eyes communicated the feelings of your heart.
How I miss the touch of your hand.
Rhonda you never were mad when I would flirt with other girls.
When we were apart some nights I would fear that someday we would part and you would marry someone else. The thought of you married to another was a mental anguish that was nearly unbearable. It felt like a hole was torn in my chest, it was a physical ache.
Oh Rhonda it was only many years later did I realize just how much you loved me.
But I loved you as well. You still remain in a special place in my heart and nothing will ever dislodge you form that place.

TXRhino- Thanks for sharing, that is a beautiful story that has made its rounds to thousands, if not millions, via forwarded e-mails. Are you the original author?

I wish that I could take credit for penning this story; but alas no. I am simple a conduit. Perhaps it was my extra sensitive mood over the holidays or just generalized melancholy, but I too was touched by this story... touched enough to memorize it and repeat everyline. In our family... my wife is the poet. She writes beautiful prose and poetry. I am the musician. Together we make beautiful Music just as we do in real life.

Keep the Faith

Keep the Faith Keep the faith. That is so true, and it helps you through these tough times. It sounds to me like you two were made for each other. That is so awesome! It's good to know that there are still couples like that in this world. -Natalie
