Default New York Inmate Wages

"Some state prison inmates spend hours each week working various labor and service jobs in their facilities, and two state elected officials want to make sure they are properly compensated for their work."[

The state is facing a huge deficits this year, so I'll not sure if the budget can handle right now. This could be a huge relief for families as they wouldnt need to send money in for commissary as this would take care of it, they could save it for release, or send it home to take care of their children.

If an inmate worked 6 hours a day, this would be 90 a week. 45 a week if they only worked one shift and program for the other one.

Paying prisoners about 20% of the minimum wage is certainly fairer than the 20 cents/hour I earned as a federal prisoner, except when their wasn't a "slot" and I was paid nothing. If politicians were actually worried about "deficits" they would be looking at all of the wasteful spending they authorize.
