Question correspondence courses for inmates

David, from Florida, who I'm corresponding with, asked me to look on
the web for some University/Colleges that offer correspondence
education to inmates for free. Does anyone know any institutions that
do this? Especially in Florida since I'd expect they're more likely
to do it for residents of the same state.
I'd appreciate any information on this subject and I'm sure David
would be too!

Hmmm.. I know there's several different courses you can 'buy', but I don't know of any that's free anywhere. Maybe someone will come along and give you some good information... (that I could mooch off of too) lol

I don't know of any for free either...a friend of mine has to find a sponsor to fund his courses if he wants to take them. Sorry I couldn't be of much help.

I don't know of any free ones! All the ones I know about you have to pay for.

I also do not know of any for free. The university of Ohio offers an extensive correspondence course for degrees of many different natures. However, we are also in Florida and you need the approval of the warden, needless to say, my guy was denied. He was told he was denied because he was at a reception center as a permanent inmate and they do not allow correspondence class there. He has since been moved to a regular camp and has not yet re apllied.

I have been searching too, and found no post-secondary courses for free. Curiously, the University of Buenos Aires, the most important in Argentina, does offer complete careers in the prisons, with a staff of qualified teachers and all books and material, but not out of the country. A national university in Colombia offers free careers for inmates abroad, but only for Colombian citizens. Fellow inmates of my son have been searching too, with no results. For my son, I am waiting his reply to apply for a paid course from a private institution in Argentina, at a much lower cost.

Un abrazo,
Andrés

I know there are many Quaker University through out the country. I would suggest trying them. In Ohio The Wilmington University offers free on-site courses at Franklin Pre-release for women or at least they did in 1992. I would suggest checking out their web site and links. Urbana University in Ohio also was offering in institution and correspondence courses to Marysville women's prison so I would check into that university as well. The best correspondence course for in inmates is a bella mentioned Ohio University, I know many inmates who received bachelors and masters degrees from this University.
