Question First visit here

Want to say "hi" to eveyone.

Being an older lady here, was glad to see that there are other Mothers who have son's in the prison system.

My son is in Dodge Correctional for one year. We just found out that because of the year sentence, he has Truth in Sentencing.

He's there for DUI. Is there anyone who knows about this Truth in Sentencing?

We had thought that because of the crowded conditions, he would serve only a percentage of his time. Are we dreaming?

Any info would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks, Kitt

Hi Kitt,
Welcome to PTO my son is also in prison. He was originally at Dodge but then was sent to Kettle Moraine Correctional Institution. Are you sure your son is going to serve his all his time at Dodge? Everyone goes there first and then they get sent some where else. My son did not like Dodge at all. Where he is now they have more freedom and are offered more programs. I can't help you with the truth in sentencing because my son is under the old law but I wanted to welcome you anyway.

Default Thank you Karen

Thank you Karen for your welcome.
You are right, my son will be transferring soon they said, as he finished his evulation. However, he recieved a letter stating that with crowded conditions all over, he has to wait at Dodge yet. There is no mention of where or when he will be sent, as they don't say anything. He is in idle time there with nothing to do. And only one phone call a week is hard.

Just wondering where they do transfer to also. Thank you for the info on Kettle Moraine Correctional. That is in Waukesha County, right? Kitt

Hi Kitt,

During your son's A&E review with a committee, he should have been told where they were recommending he be transferred. Typically they give two places where they would want them to be transferred.

Default thanks for comment...

Thanks for your comment Wisconsin1. Will check with his gal on this, as I was led to believe that no place was mentioned. Then again... maybe with the crowded conditions, they are just waiting to see what opens up. Oh my...Kitt

Hi Kitt,
Kettle Moraine is not in Waukesha county. I wish it was because I live in Waukesha county. Kettle Moraine is a hour north of Milwaukee in Plymouth. When my son was at Dodge he got to pick 2 places he would like to be transfered to and he picked Kettle Moraine or Racine. You should be able to visit you son soon at Dodge. I think they start by allowing 2 one hour visits a week. Best of luck, Karen

Hi Kitt If you haven't gotten any information about Truth in Sentencing, I have a couple of websites for you to go to and check out http://www.wi-doc.com/Parole_Commission.htm

http://www.legis.state.wi.us/senate/.../pr2002-13.htm

I hope those sites give you some of the informatiion that you were looking for. I know that they revised the Truth in Sentencing law earlier this year (I believe) or the law was already like this, but certain prisoners are eligible for parole, it depends on the crime.

Hi All,
I am new to this site and I am so happy that I stumbled across it. My boyfriend is at Oshkosh Correctional and is supposed to get out 10/05 but caught another case the day before his sentencing hearing - go figure. He goes to court the end of September. We have a 7 month old baby girl who is my absolute pride and joy. Good luck everyone and I hope I'll see you around.

truth in sentencing means you serve every last hour they give you. We too thought my son would be released early because of over crowding but all they are doing is shoving prisoners from one prison to another. My son was at Dodge for a long time, close to a year before going to kettle moraine and then transfered him to stanley....the parole board has spoken to him twice which is encouraging telling him that if he behaved in stanley he could be moved to a work farm sooner than expected and once at a work farm early release is around the corner. So dont lose faith....truth in sentencing is not working out real well in wisconsin because of the over crowding. Alot of non violent offenders are in with the violent ones. makes you wonder what the system thought they were gonna get when they made that rule......like I said keep the faith and I hope they move him out of dodge sooner than later, cause that is one mean nasty prison.....

hello all, my name is colleen and my son jory is now in stanley prison. he too started out at dodge and then went to kettle moraine. now he is in stanely... he is suppose to serve 5 years for robbery but has met with the parole board twice since being in stanley...seems if he stays out of fights (hard to do in there I guess) they will consider sending him to a work farm next year which means early release. doesnt seem the truth in sentencing law is working out to well for wisconsin. overcrowding. My son spent a year in the county jail for which they gave him no time served that was just wrong I think, then they stuck him at dodge, that was a nightmare. I seen him in nov. last year and it was a nasty place....you all know the rest...I am in texas so the most I can do is once a year visits but he has his sister up there and we write him alot...this forum is the best thing that has happened to me since he has been in jail...when he gets out I will continue to support this forum any way I can .....because it helped me though some tough times and I just joined :-) knowing other people are going through the same thing makes it bearable....

kia 5858, can you tell me why your son got transfered to Stanley from Kettle Moraine? my son is at Kettle Moraine right now and is due to be released in March of 2005. I would hate to see him moved again, not that Kettle Moraine is that great, but being in prison is bad enough without being transfered around. Also I am sorry your son did not get credit for his year in jail that sure does not sound right. My son was in jail for a long time too but they counted that as time taken off his total sentence. I have no idea why they transferred him....probably to make us drive farther to see him...they will transfer him again to a work farm in about a year...or so....they have not even started his "programs" that are the criteria to be let out and they should of a while ago....I believe they transfer them around due to the fact alot of prisoners are coming back from out of state and they need to find room in certain prisons depending on security of prison and crime and time serving....but I am not sure.........no it isnt right they didnt give him credit, but that is justice for ya....

Smile New to all this

My name is Kris and my husband and I are in the process of divorce. He is currently in Oakhill Correctional. We are trying to at least save our friendship. We have known each other for almost 15 years and have a wonderful 10 year old son. It is nice to know that there are others out there. This is a great resource!

My name is Rob, and here's my story:

About 15 years ago I had this special girlfriend. We lived together for a short time and it just did'nt work out and we both went our own ways. It wasnt a bad break up or any thing, it just was'nt working out for us. Any ways, She was always in my heart and i decided to look her up again a few years ago. well there was just no record of here any where. I had heard that she got into a bunch of trouble a while ago so I called the Dept of Corrections here in WI and gave them her birth date and name. It turned out she got married about 11 years ago and of course she had a different last name now. I decided to send her a note to let her know that I was still thinking of her and wow! 2 days later I recieved a letter and picture from her! She said that she thought about me alot and tried to find me also. We write regularly now and I am awaiting her phone call anxiously and hope to go see her as soon as i'm approved.

She recieved a 20 year sentence for some robberys and i would like to be by her side during this hard time for her. She will allways be in my heart.

Hi Emily,
Welcome to PTO. My son is also at Kettle Moraine Correctional Institution. He has been there since June 2004 and his MR date is March 8th 2005. I live a little west of Milwaukee so it takes me about an hour and a half to drive there. I try to see him once a week. You have found a great sight for help and support. Karen
