The unit they are sent to is dependent on many factors. One of the main ones is available bed space. Also age, conviction history, health, and program needs are accounted for. For example if they are in poor health they may be sent to a unit close to a TDCJ medical unit,or if they have a trade skill they might be sent to a unit that needs that skill. Where they come from is not much of a factor.

There is no particular unit that inmates go to. As stated above, there are different factors that are involved, NONE of which we are every privy to.

Txmatt, are you talking about at the county jail, state jail, or state prison level?

If it is a State Jail sentence then one would probably go to either Lychner or Kegans. If it is an ID sentence then I think they would go through intake in Huntsville, starting out at Holliday, but once they make it through intake they can be transferred anywhere in the state.

The offender leaves Harris County for an intake facility, usually one near Huntsville or Tennessee Colony. After this they CAN be transported to a processing unit and then to a permanent ID unit. There is no rhyme or reason to it.

Again, that applies only to ID sentences. Not state jail. I did not mention that my reply above was specifically with Harris county in mind.

I know I should know this, but I just don't have a clue. What's an ID?
