Default Very nervous about parole!

My LO was told by his counselor that she's going to run him up March 19th. His recall isn't until October of this year, so this must be staff initiated.

If she runs him up March 19th like she says, it's my understanding that they can either grant his parole then or schedule an interview for the following month. Is that right? If they do grant him straight parole, about how long after that before he is able to come home?

If anyone can give me any information, I sure would appreciate it! Also, he's at NCCF, not sure if that makes a difference or not. Thanks for any info you can give!

Hi there! My LO just had a "special" also. He had to fill out some paperwork to be approved by the prison staff, allowing him to petition the parole board for early consideration. Once that is approved (and it usually is), then the parole board can either flat out decide or request an interview. In my LO's case he was scheduled for an interview (if you make it this far there's a good chance your request for WR or parole will be granted). With him, I think it was a few weeks from the time he submitted the request until he had his interview. It depends on when the parole board holds them for that facility. He had his interview last week, & was told that day that his work release was approved. He will transfer a week from that day, which is a few days from now! Btw, he also is in NCCF. That is a transitional facility that the board had my LO transfer to after 7 years of being housed at Anamosa. They wanted to see how he did in a lower security setting. So that's a plus for your LO. From what I hear, they don't run someone up on a special unless there's a good chance of release. If he has the review March 19th he should know something soon after, at least about an interview if needed, or an out & out decision . I can't remember who my LO's counselor is, I know it's a man. But he was really good about helping get reference letters together from my LO's job supervisor, & class certificates/aptitude test results, & other items that looked good to the parole people. I also wrote another letter to them spelling out what support he would have here in town. Now, as I said he got work release, which is what he wanted to transition back anyway. I'm not sure what all is involved with parole, I think you have to have a home visit for approval of where he would live before he can get out. I think there are forms they would send you to fill out before that. Gosh, good luck to you & him...I hope he gets good news!

I was reading your messages and I know that they were posted earlier in the year but I have a similar question. My LO is currently in Anamosa and was denied parole in Sept'14 with his next recall date being Oct '15 & TDD is Nov '16. He was issued when denied to take a "thinking better" class & was bumped up a couple times to start earlier than he was told it was offered so he started late Oct. Well he told me after the class is complete he will be moved to level 3 (currently on level 2) then transferred to probably Rockwell or Oakdale then he can be "ran up" for parole again. So why does he have to move up levels and transfer to lower security prison to be paroled if the board just reviewed him in Anamosa? I am fairly new to this and would like to have any info I can. Thank you.
