You are so right! I have seen messed up things in my life but the most cruel thing personally you can do to any person is tell them the exact time and date of there death.

2014???

I don't know if that cruel to do that or a blessing that it gives them & their loved ones time to prepare.

That's still crazy.

I am speechless, what a horrible thing to do I know that it gives loved ones the extra time to prepare etc but to me its must still be torture for all involved !!!!

Totally ridiculous. Cannot believe they have set a date over 3 years away. I simply don't comprehend any logic or rationale behind this.

You are exactly right, Lisa. It has to be torture for all involved. A lot can change in that time span I just don't understand why they feel the need to set such remote dates.

This takes cruelty to a whole new level, it's vile. There can't be any reason why they have to set a date this early.

I totally agree, I mean if someone was to harm my child or something extreme,ya naturally I would wish death upon them..but thats because I'm personally making judgement and ,of course I wouldnt be making a clear and just choice, since I would be too emotionally involved. Thats why our jurers and judges arent supose to have any kind of attachment or personal involvement. The reason I am stating this point is because I have had ppl say .."well if someone did this or that to you or yours you would want the death for them, and their right. but once again thats why a person cant be judged by anyone involved.I believe the dp is completely wrong and I sure wouldnt want to be the one to judge and order a death .

Default Execution

How messed up to tell an inmate when their execution date is I don't think it is right. It makes it even harder on the loved ones.

each state is different. in some states that still have the death penalty, they rarely if ever execute anyone who has not given up on their appeals and even those that have, it usually doesn't happen. CA and NV are two of these states. and then there is Texas and GA who carry out these sentences fairly often. So, there isn't a general consensus of anything.

Loved ones and inmates on Japan's death row would disagree. They are not told when they will be executed. All they know is that at a certain hour, if the doors open, somebody's going to die. If the guards stop in front of their cell, they are that person.

Attorneys have found out that their client was executed earlier that day when they went to file an appeal.

Family was merely notified to come collect the body.

See for example, this account of an innocent man who spent 34 years on Japan's death row.

Arguing about the humanity of knowing the exact date and time of your death is pretty pointless - both methods are equally inhumane, though in different ways. It's all just state sanctioned murder.
