The Southern Ohio Correctional Facility seeks to provide offenders of felony convictions within the State of Ohio a safe, efficient, humane and appropriately secure correctional institution, while maintaining dedication to the protection of citizens of the State of Ohio and the local community. Mindful of Ohio Department of Rehabilitation and Correction's initiatives of re-entry, community service and victim reparation, we seek to instill in offenders an improved sense of responsibility and the capacity to become law-abiding members of society.

Unique Programs
  • Man in the Mirror,
developed through a Grant in 1997, is a program of Reflection. The two focal areas of this program are self-awareness with an emphasis on critical thinking, problem solving and the acceptance of constructive criticism, which will be beneficial to each inmate. Inmates are frequently discussing distorted perception, shallow aspirations, and expedient expectations. They are simply unaware of themselves and conceive false rationalizations for their behaviors and current predicaments. This program is unique because the Case Manager, Ms. Donita Redd, wrote it.
  • Know What You Know Before You Go is a stronger emphasis on the Pre-Release Program. This program will allow inmates, who will be transferred or released, the ability to recognize or learn their independent living strengths and deficiencies. They are required to take the Standardized Daniel Memorial Test. Inmates will not only have limited use of a computer, but will have a permanent read out of themselves. This will allow the inmates to personally assess themselves without being allowed to accuse others. This should encourage them to take other programs to reinforce their strengths and to reduce their deficits.
