Default Just had first visit at Marlin Transfer Unit

Wife just got transferred from Plane State to Marlin. Intake only took a couple of days so I was able to have a contact visit her first weekend there. BIG difference from Plane State. On her end, the unit is air-conditioned and is much more comfortable than Plane State. She is "Mis-Housed" and is being housed in AdSeg until she can be housed in a regular dorm. She is G2, it's just that the facility is over-full.

There is one single guard checking cars so be prepared to wait in the vehicle line. It is a small unit so the line is not going to be very long. Once through that and parked it's about a 100 yard walk to the entry door. You will have to remove your shoes and belt, empty your pockets. I even had to remove my watch and prescription glasses to go through the metal detector. Then the patdown before you can get yourself back together. They will go through your bag of change.

I was told that the vending machines in the contact visitation area were not working so I had to get snacks from the three machines in the lobby. Chips/snacks and a soft-drink machine only. No sandwiches like Plane State. You then are escorted by a guard through a locked fence gate and you get to march along a sidewalk between fences and razor wire to the temporary building they use for visitation. The lobby guards keep your ID.

It does not take long for your offender to show up, though. Small square table with "offender" written on their side so you know where to sit. There is a visitor's bathroom in the building but the offender had better have that done before the visit starts.

Once your visit is done you have to march back down the sidewalk and wait for the lobby guard to come let you out of the gate and give you back your ID. All of this is outside and uncovered so be prepared it its raining. I don't imagine the guards are going to be in any hurry to go outside to let people in and out of the gate.

Budget 30 minutes to get into the visitation room and see your offender, budget about 10 minutes from end of visit to get back to your car.

All in all the guards were pleasant enough. Just don't expect much.
