Default Solitary Confinement

Hi my LO is currently in the hole, it's been 3 weeks and he has some health issues. I need info regarding solitary confinement in FBOP. He states it's for posing a risk to others/staff but that it's a misunderstanding. He has never been in there longer than a few days and I'm becoming increasingly concerned. Thank you for any answers.

Here's the bop program statement for secure housing units, SHU.
https://www.bop.gov/policy/progstat/5270.11.pdf

My experience was that when a bop staff member wanted someone put in the SHU, that's where they went regardless of provocation, or the lack thereof. In one prison I was in, the Chaplain sent more folks to the SHU than any other staff member.

Ah, spiritual care in the FBOP.... Good reminder not to call the chaplian. I know of a BOP shrink who gave every inmate he talked to the diagnosis of antisocial personality disorder.

You can go to the SHU for anything and everything... BOP will always give the same blanket resposne: for the security of inmate, other inmates and staff, and the orderly running of the institution.

The "psychologist" at Loretto was on a mission to have everyone who received them voluntarily stop taking anti anxiety meds, which had been prescribed to them by a MD Psychiatrist. Unfortunately he was somewhat successful. "You're in prison, you ought to be depressed", was what he told me, unconvincingly. I asked him if depression wasn't what the medications treated? "Yes, but almost nobody really needs them".

Quackery is rampant in the bop.

I've had a bird's eye view of psychologists in the BOP because lawyers I work with have called a number to testify. None were licensed by their state, and they didn't belong to any professional organizations and probably couldn't get much of a job outside the system. I just tell my clients and their families not to expect much help inside, if you get it, it's a lucky fluke. the news on the chaplains being punitive is new to me, but I can believe it. Human nature can stink.

I had two Chaplains POINT BLANK tell me they were BoP employees first, Chaplains second. I accepted they are COs assigned to work in the chapel and I urge one and all to accept that same thing.
