He probably asked to be put in protective custody. Prison debt can be about just about anything, but borrowing, gambling debts, and purchasing contraband are the ones that usually cause trouble.

The committee will decide if he qualifies for PC, or not. He can also end up being transferred to another prison if the committee is worried enough about his safety to move him elsewhere.

Only he can tell you what caused his current problems.

He expressed concern for his safety and they have to respond and address that. Maybe he claims enemies or debt or maybe something unprovoked but as FBO points out he likely goes PC / SNY (assuming he is level 3 or higher where they haven't integrated). And he likely moves to another yard or prison.

They can committee him if they believe or have evidence he is part of the problem. That could cost him points or lost credit. To early to tell.

He's in by his request. For a reason. This can often be the start of him heading down a rabbithole. Many guys continually have problems, have to move / roll it up. Next time you talk to him tell him to avoid doing whatever he can avoid that might contribute to this.

Iím playing the waiting game and itís killing me because idk whatís going on. I just heard he went by choice through the grapevine. Hoping he didnít get his self in deep shit. Do you know how long they stay in the hole before being moved to a pc/sny? Iím sure there is no set time frame but doesnít hurt to ask.

I can't say for sure. Some 2 years ago I spoke with a Warden. She told me for non-discipline ASU the prison has to file paperwork for approval from CDCR headquarters to keep inmate in ASU time beyond a certain time limit. I can't remember exactly, but I think that was less than one week time frame. She made it clear that paperwork was a pain in the ass they try to avoid.

It's a good question and that's about as much as I've heard about it. Maybe someone has a better answer.
