Default Sending Books To Illinois Prison - Do They Get There?

Hi all. I'm brand new here. I'm also a reporter who covers education issues inside Illinois prisons. I recently did a story about how 200 books were removed from the EJP library inside Danville CC.

I'm curious if anyone has sent an LO a book or some other publication and they haven't received it. I'd love to talk to folks who have gone through this experience. Let me know. You can reach me via email at (Removed per policy), too.

The only book my husband never received was one about fbi profiling they said it’s like propaganda.

Sent my loved one books constantly while he was in receiving. Never had a problem getting them to him.

No issues at another minimum security prison. Yes, books are censored. My son asked for a book of maps in the beginning and needless to say that didn't go thru - lol.

Default Book Donations

I very recently visited a min. security & wanted to donate some books to the library. I was told no by the c/o at the desk. I was puzzled because I had just donated three, 2 weeks before with no problem at all. I mumbled something about that "not being right", and by the time I got out of the restroom, the c/o had called back and a person came to get my books. I talked to that person and they told me they are always happy for donations. The first c/o also told me I couldn't donate any games to the visitor's room, which isn't right either. My loved one had asked the warden if we could, and the warden said yes, but they would have to go through approval. (Which I have no problem with)

Right in IL - at the minimum security prison where my son is - they accept books and games for the visiting room.
