Exclamation Western union says his registration ( inmate number) does not exist??

Hello !! I am new to all of this and was referred to this group...
My s/o was picked up from county and sent to Oklahoma City FTC and is now waiting to get transferred to Miami fed camp ... he has been there going on 4 days and he's registered in the system on th bop website and I had no issue setting up an account with Gtl for phone time... but when I go to add money to his books via western union online and over the phone they say his inmate number does not exist?

Am I doing something wrong ?

Thank you

Welcome to Prison Talk. Issues with Western Union when attempting to send money to a federal inmate do occur, for various reasons. Here are the bop's instructions for how to fill out a WU deposit (click the WU tab)
https://www.bop.gov/inmates/communications.jsp#money

And here for specific instructions for sending money to the bop. The quick collect method is important. Enter the amount of money in the box at the top for the federal bureau of prisons and then "get started"
https://www.westernunion.com/us/en/inmatehome.html

Another possibility is that WU hasn't yet received the update that he is now a federal inmate, but that should have happened as soon as his inmate number showed up on the bop inmate locator.

It may have changed since I was there, but inmate commissary accounts could not be used for anything at Oklahoma City anyway. You could mail a US Postal money order to the lock box in Des Moines, IA, and the funds will be available when he finally arrives in Miami. Any other type of MO will be held for 15 days.

If you are suing the dash in his inmate number, it won't recognize it. 12345-678. Enter it is 12345678 with Western Union.

Plus I have to add the last name with the number so it looks like 77777777smith

Account Number: Inmate's eight-digit register number with no spaces or dashes, followed immediately by the inmate's last name (example: 12345678DOE)
Attention Line: Inmate's full committed name
Code City is always: FBOP, DC

If that doesn't work, you can always send a U.S. Postal Service Money order to the BOP Lockbox by snail mail. The address and instructions are on the BOP website. You save yourself the Western Union fee as well. It takes an extra 3 or 4 days.
