Default Brother pleading tomorrow

My brother is taking the plea deal tomorrow and I'm freaking out. The plea is only for 4 months so I know that's nothing compared to everyone else but it's my little brother. Will he go right then? Any tips?

Chances are he'll be remanded right away. Expect it. Prepare for it. If it doesn't happen, cool! Holidays with baby brother and more time to get his affairs in order so that those 4 months don't screw things up too much.

If you're freaking out about it, take a friend with you and have your friend do the driving.

4 months is jail time. Once remanded to serve his sentence, he'll be placed with other low level post conviction inmates. Those inmates are there to serve short sentences and get through their time, not add to it. The politics of a prison maximum security yard don't apply.

Hell presumably be local, so visit as much as you want. Get the visitation schedule and procedure from the jail. If you can help with money on his books, do so, but know you don't have to. You don't have to do anything. Yes, he's your little brother and you are supposed to take care of him, but you are not required to do anything for him, to him, by him, or whatever.

Hopefully, he'll use that time productively and figure out what's wrong with himself or his life that took him to where he's at. It's what I keep hoping for my older brother, but we've been playing this game for more than 40 years. He seems committed to a life in and out of county and DOC. As a result, I seriously suggest you process all of this for yourself. Deal with the emotions of everything so you can look at it logically especially when he gets out. If he doesn't change anything except how he talks about things, he's very likely to go back.

And remember, at some point, a man has to stand on his own feet. We hate seeing them cause themselves unnecessary suffering, especially when we know their potential to create good, positive lives. But at some point, you have to step back and let them stand on their own.

Depending on his age, this is going to be freaking him out a lot more than you. Encourage him to read up on prison etiquette - that stuff still applies, even in county. Lots of people have walked where you both are walking now - they survive. Some get stronger because of it. I hope you both find yourselves in that category.

Thank you for your reply! He went today and is serving 1 month with 8 years probation. It sucks he's a felon but lucky he's not doing more time.

And yes, at almost 33 he needs to get his life together!

He'll be serving in county jail then, not in prison. Just be aware that not all county jails are created equal - if the county is short on funds, he may end up more miserable than he would have in prison.

I hope for your sake and his that this is the wake up call he needs.

When he originally got arrested he was in this county jail and slept on the floor the whole time due to over crowding :/

I'm so sorry, J1982ark. Hopefully the jail will at least give him a bed now that he's got a sentence to serve and isn't "waiting" anymore. That's awful.

We were under the impression that he was getting one month but then I found this tonight.

He took the plea deal. I don't know how it went from pleading and getting 4 months to gething a year. When he talked to hia lawyer Monday that's what she wants telling him the deal was. Unless she meant he would only serve 4 months. His girlfriend is the only one who went so we only know as much as she tells us...

It may be that he only serves 4 months before he is released.

The most difficult part of his sentence, without doubt, will be to avoid a probation violation and a quick return to prison. He may be eligible for an early release from probation, but those don't usually happen until the second half of his time, and a PV on his last day is as bad as if it happened on day #1.

How frustrating let's hope he will only have to serve four months.

Pretty sure he's been transferred for processing for ADC. My mom bought 2 care packages and one was cancelled. When she called the company they said he was released or transferred.
