Default Move from Max to Medium security prison - when & how?

did it happen for your guy? Like how long did he have left oin his sentence? Was he a violent? Any thing else you might know. Counsellor told us my son would be lowered in classification but she said the mediums are too crowded--more crowded than the Maxzs? so he would not be moved any time soon.

my husband was moved to a med 2 yrs before his parole board hearing which is happening next month. But ended back in a Max after 6 months. He hated it the Med. he was used to the Old Tymers and having his own space, things are alot different from Max. It's alot less restricted in the med. How it happened- 2yrs ago his counselor told him his classification dropped and within six weeks, he was shipped out to a med. I'm not sure what you mean by "was he violent" when he got the news? or generally violent?"

Default sorry meant his charge was a classified a violent

felony-albeit no one was hurt. I was a weapons charge--so they are ckassified as violent whether you use it or not.

my man was classified as a "violent felony offender" and was given 9 years flat. he did 5 years and 10 months in various maxes and was transferred to a medium in October '05. he has a year and 10 months left. he made requests to his counselor for a transfer to a medium, but it took well over a year for any type of transfer to come through for him. although an inmate can seek a transfer through their counselor, if i'm not mistaken, family members can contact the "movement & classification" division of NYS Dept of Corrections. my man gave me contact info for it, so if you would like it, let me know.
