New to Shawangunk

Hello! My love was recently transferred to Shawangunk from Attica... recently as in yesterday. I live out of state and will have to fly and rent a car to visit. What is the nearest/ easiest airport and hotel to Shawangunk? What's it like over there.... so far I have read great things... as Attica was hell.

Whatever you can tell me to ease my mind until I talk to my hunny will be VERY helpful!!!!

I live 20 mins from there the closet air port would be Stewart airport in Newburgh they have a rental company close by enterprise also have a hotel 20 mins from the prison in Montgomery NY super 8 or Hampton inn

Hey ya'll. I will be travelling from Florida to Shawangunk in a few weeks... he's new and we've never had a visit. Anything out of the ordinary that I should know, besides the typical visitation rules. He said something about I can't wear a coat!!! What is the visitor room set up like.... any info is better that what I've got!!

Hello.. Mine was in Attica and then got transferred to shawangunk. It’s so much better as far as visiting goes. No you can’t wear your coat inside.you have to keep it in the locker. They are pretty laid back never had an issue. Compared to Attica the process is jus way easier and less stressful. I feel compared to other facilities the honor visit room is small. You get to sit a table. Most of the c.o are chill jus one or two occasionally can me alil extra.nothing like Attica. been going there for 3 years and never had any issues. I like it 100 percent better.

Also if you’re going to take pictures make sure you purchase the tickets at the front when u sign in after you go through the metal detector. No one told me that my first time. Two bucks for a pic. I hope you enjoy your visit!!

Tatiana - THANK YOU!! I am so glad you responded because he is coming from Attica also, so that is what I am used to dealing with. Do you know if on the weekends, people wait in their cars early early like they do at Attica? I was prepared to get there around 5AM Saturday and Sunday to get a good number but not if I don't have to! I am flying out tomorrow morning to see him and can't wait but am nervous because every spot has their own set of unwritten rules. Thanks for telling me about the pictures!

You are welcome.NOO LOL no waiting at 5 am. They won’t let you on to the property til 8. And it’s not nearly as crowded like Attica since it being smaller population. I will be visiting on Sunday. Don’t be nervous. It’ll be fine they are super chill there. Wait til u go and then after you are going to be like this is it?lol. You’ll see me I have red hair lol.
