Default Positive meme for women over 40

I am so tired of hearing what women over forty shouldnt be doing.

No long hair?
Dress your age?
Your too old to do that?
Etc

Who ever made those rules? Sadly its normally other women. But we should be doing it our way and whatever makes us happy.

Totally agree. My sister bought me brown hait dye from me hitting forty. I kept using red regardless! So now I'm nearer to 60 I went blonde highlights instead . ( I so wanted the silver grey colour naturally but have brown with white temples and not much grey at all. )

I had an interesting conversation with the women in my class the other day. I teach Spanish and my students are all 60+, I'm 40. I'm letting my grey grow in. My mother's side has a history of beautiful white hair and I'm hoping mine goes that way. My students could NOT understand that. Of the six, four still color their hair. I guess it's just a shift in expectations, like "no long hair after age XX". I had a very close friend over 60 who felt strongly about that and pointed out every woman who 'needed to cut their hair'. We're not friends anymore. Lol

I have naturally very light blonde hair and although I have a lot of grey it hardly shows.I am going slowly whiter though. I like my hair long and intend to keep it that way as long as its looking good.
Also I like clothes that suit not clothes that are age appropriate lol. I still wear clothes that my daughter likes so I cant be that out of fashion.
I know a very attractive lady who is 68 and a gym instructor she was told that she should retire and her answer was hell no I love it.

My mother put a wig of hers on me the other day that was short. It was brown and had grey highlights. It was fugly. I looked in the mirror and she said that is what you'll look like in 30 years.

Told her my hair wont be that short. She said you cant have long hair forever. You'll look like those weird old cat ladies. I smile and nod.

Hitting 40 in a few months. My hair is mid back. The longest it has ever been. Greys are just starting. I'll keep it as long as I like it this way. If I choose to change, it is because I want to.

It is still some years before I become 40 years old. But, hair is a contentious issue. My mum is in her 60 ‘s and she still keeps her long dark hair. She remains fit from active work. We argue over clothes — she takes mine. I say to her that I don’t want to wear things that my mom does ! That side of the family has good genetics for skin / hair . . .

But here is the other issue . . . when a good portion of women get older in Eastern Europe, each seems to adopt strange red hair colors or unnatural blacks. And with a lot of make - up too. There was once a Facebook page called, „ Eastern European women with badly dyed red hair ”. While many may no longer keep it long [ some do . . in a bun ] it gets tall ! And so, I know what is coming in my future. I already have my hair style picked out for then.

onedayatatime13...."Fugly." LOL I used that in a sentence just last night

I'm over 60, hair is past my shoulders....and I absolutely refuse to dye it. Nope. Not gonna happen. Neither will the short hair. I dress the same as I always have - jeans. T-shirts. Over sized guys button up shirt, flannel shirt or T-shirt over long-sleeved Ts in cooler weather. I don't "dress-up." My daughter, in her most sarcastic voice, often comments on my "keen fashion sense." She says my clothes don't match I say they do

I do what I want and don't give a furry rat's ass about other people's expectations. I'm 54 and I dress how I see fit
Since there's no "dress code" at work as in suits and stuff I can wear e.g. snakeskin print leggings, leather leggings, sneakers, ripped boyfriend jeans, etc.... I hate heels and prefer flat shoes/boots/sneakers. I'm lucky that my figure is normal/sporty and I'm 5'8'' so I can wear a lot of different stuff. Plus I hate make-up, the only thing I wear is mascara & lipstick but I always have my nails done short and with color.

I can’t wear make up for work but when I am off duty I always wear it. I love it. Heels sometimes but I am active so I like comfy shoes to run around in.
Short dresses mini skirts over leggings I wear what suits me and what I feel good in.

Im a non conformist too. I wear what i like.
My hair is longish tho I recently cut it. Its just below my shoulders in the back, and a tad shorter in the front. Its WHITE. lol. Used to be summer blonde. Lighter in summer time, and darker in winter. Its baby fine, so I figure if I cut it too short well.......yuck.

My dad is always trying to get me to cut it. Nope. Not gonna happen. Ive had short hair only a handfull of times in my life. Hated it.

I'll wear leggins most of the time. The capri length in summer. Or sweats. Shirts are whatever I feel like. I used to wear mostly jeans in my off duty time. Since Im now off duty all the time, Ive gone to the more comfy leggings with a longish sweater or a flannel shirt.

I never ever could get into wearing a mid length dress/skirt. Since Im sorta short (5-3 or so) I always felt like I was wearing my mom's dress. So it was either a mini jean skirt or the like. I dont think I'd be doing that now (Im also 61) as I think I'd be self conscious, uncomfortable.

I love this meme. I have my own hang ups about age and what's appropriate. For me it's mainly because I look much younger and become annoyed by comments or actions that I feel wouldn't be made if people knew I am over 40. I'm proud to be a member of the 40 club.

I let my mood dictate most of the time because I love life. I'm pretty versatile, so I love all sorts of styles. I do have to admit that I avoid certain things that may make me appear or seem younger because I'm trying to get the respect of my 40s before I speak.

I don't get this stuff because of appearance, but I know what you mean. I was diagnosed with a chronic illness at age 8 that left me with neurological and arthritic conditions (to start). "Older" folks have been telling me my whole life "Wait til you're older and have a body like mine". Because I was a kid who'd been taught to be respectful to people, I didn't say much for the first few years. But it really starts to get under your skin when people assume things like that about you based on appearance! So finally I learned to say, "If I only had a body like yours at your age, I'd be thrilled." I had a very sassy teenagehood. Lol
I think what I wear has been more heavily influenced by my health than my age. I have no idea what it means to dress your age, but I know what it means to cover psoriasis and hide braces and IV bruises. So when I'm clear, I wear whatever the heck makes me happy and doesn't hurt. Leggings. That means lots of leggings.

Man, let me tell you, my husband and I go round and round about how I dress. I'm strictly a "don't give a damn" type woman. My hair is short, but that's only because that's how I want it and due to the fact that I don't have the patience to style no damned hair. I've never colored it a day in my life, and I'm NOT about to start now. Is the grey there? Yep. I'm over 60, but I earned every damned piece of gray that I have.

Work is great. I have to wear a uniform, and I love it. I'm all about comfort. Makeup? HA! If God wanted me to wear makeup, I'd have been born with it on. At home, it's jeans and comfy shirts. Summer....it is shorts down to my knees. I didn't show my ass when I was young, and I'm not about to start now.

I don't think Ive had anyone tell me that, I dress the way I want to and visit the hairdresser under duress!
I have been told I should wear more makeup though. I'm in my 60's.

edited to add. My hair is very thin and I suffer from alopecia; my biggest vanity was my hair, so have kept it shortish because it looks so bad long. It seems to be recovering somewhat so now I'm letting it grow! Wish me luck!

I've had short hair because of excessive hair fall, too. I hear ya. Crossing my fingers and sending Happy Scalp vibes your way!!

I love it. I'm a rough around the edges type of lady. I love to dress up but just don't have the patience for the majority of the enhancements--makeup, extensions/wigs, eyelashes, etc. NAH!

Just saw a post about an old term.
You dont usually hear the word *spinster* that much anymore.
But according to this post...you are only a spinster if you are an unmarried female under the age of 26.
After that you are then a *Thornback*

what the serious hell????

I was cracking up at the comments. Someone said they were gonna open a bar and only show rom coms and the bachelor on the tv and call the place Thornbacks.
I dunno, it cracked me up.
And why dont they do the same thing for men?
just thought I'd share.

Holy shit, 26? I hope my kids wait until 30.

I wear a dress neatly every day because I like how they make me feel and they fit better than pants. My hair is blonde and 70% silver and very long, and I love it. My mom never let me have long hair as a child and I would put a sheet on my head to pretend it was long hair! I love makeup and lipstick... but I wear Doc Martens and carry a cheap purse.

I have 0 style! I’m 58 and I have non dyed dark red hair, no grey yet! And I will not color it when I do go grey. As Marseille mentioned also my mother would always have my hair cut in a pixie, Now it’s long! Sweatpants and sweatshirts are my go to in the winter, and capris and a tee in the summer. I wear makeup to my husbands Christmas party at work, other than that never. I guess I feel like I’m old enough that I don’t have to impress anyone, and I never buy new clothes, I truly dislike shopping
