Default Thinking of Visiting MWI for the first time

I'm thinking of visiting my MWI for the first time this Summer and I am SO incredibly nervous about it! I could really use some support and stories about what your first visit was like, I feel so silly that I'm so nervous over it and can only imagine what I'll be like the day of!

I've been dreaming about the moment we'll finally be in the same room together for so long and now that it's becoming a reality I'm surprisingly overwhelmed. We are states away from each other and I have an annoying fear of flying so I think that's a big part of it. But after countless video visits, phone calls and letters I know I'm ready. Ahh!

What was your first visit like? What did you wear? Did anything about the visiting process surprise you? I'd be going to Lebanon in Ohio so if any of you have been there too I would love to know what it was like. I've never been to a prison before so it'll be a lot of firsts!

Your questions about how to dress and what it's like will be answered in the OH forum, but...
I visited my MWI about 15 months after we started writing and roughly 9 months of phone calls. It was probably one of the most anxiety inducing things I've ever done on a social level. But it all went very well and it was what we needed to solidify our relationship.

Given that you've had video visits, that should help take some of the stress off. I had only see one photo of him before meeting so I really had no idea what he would look like. That was probably the biggest shock! Not a bad shock, but definitely a shock.

Hi there - I visited my MWI after writing and speaking with him for nearly two years; I flew to California from Europe I don't think I've ever been so nervous but the minute I sat down to face him (our visit was through glass) I calmed down and felt like I was talking to someone I'd known all my life.

We have a lovely thread called "A trip down memory lane - first visit stories" if you want to read about people's experiences about their first visits (some MWI, some not).

Wishing you a great visit and looking forward to hearing all about it

When I remember my first visit I still get goosebumps... almost like Sarianna described... I was so nervous but once I had set down with him I got calmer and calmer. He was still at a different facility and we were just beginning to be friends so it was different than it is now or how it developed but still so cute. I was in awe to be honest...
Now fast forward 3 years and we're just about to plan our first weekend home together when he'll be on a weekend-pass... Amazing.

First visit I wore a pink top and black jeggings.
I had been SO nervous the week before but then I got to the US and I was okay, excited but nerves had died down. He was a wreck lol
All week he was fine telling me to calm down and the day of he was a ball of nerves.
We kissed and talked and just enjoy each other. It was amazing.
The day I feel that our love and commitment was solidified.

This isn’t what you asked but have you considered taking Amtrak? I took it recently from California to Oregon and I enjoyed it a lot.

When I was released from prison in Virginia, I traveled to Seattle on Amtrak. Flying has deteriorated to the point where the only benefit remaining is arriving sooner, so if time isn't an issue, the train is a much more comfortable, and pleasant way to travel.
