Default Hubby's Medical Pass Being Denied for Clipper Shave

Hi, I'm new here but have found this site to be helpful even before I registered.

My husband is in TDCJ for a DWI his 3rd or 4th. He's getting three year sentence but with good behavior possibly it will be a year and a half.

He was first transferred to the Middleton Unit in June. Now he is at the Bryd Unit in Huntsville. He was given I think it's called a Medical Clipper Pass when he entered the system.

He takes Coumadine which is a blood thinner. He has been told by doctors that it's better for him to shave with some form of clipper rather than a razor. Because if he cuts himself he bleeds for a long time.

According to him the razors there are very dull.

Anyway, he was in the dinner line recently and they pulled him aside saying he was not following the grooming standards.

He says it's not true because he'd had a clipper shave 5 hours before.

He also says when he was filling out the paper work the Warden muttered something under his breath. When he asked what he said the Warden said you heard me.

This is his first disciplinary and they want to take away 10 days of commissary and 10 days recreation.

He has filed a grievance and I understand if you doesn't like the result he can file a step 2.

Is there some other way I can help him?

The only other thing I can think of is for him to try and get something in writing from medical saying he is not allowed to shave with a razor because he is on blood thinner therapy. It might help with his appeal to the writeup, but wardens are given almost unlimited power to do whatever they want to do, even on days when they are in a foul mood.

Are they not allowed an electric razor???
One would think that may be a better alternative to clipper shaving.
My bil was also on blood thinners a few yrs ago, but he just had a beard and moustache (plus he wasnt in prison)
That seems really wrong to write him up and petty as well.

added, Im sure you would have to buy the electric razor thru a vendor or like that..........(but I know zip about tx)

I don't know about TX, but electric shavers are forbidden in federal prison.

Does he actually HAVE a CSP issued by the doctor on his current unit or has medical just said he SHOULD just do clipper shaves? Yes, it makes a difference.

CSP's are something that has to be issued on the current unit and is going to be subject to regular renewal periods. If there is no current CSP, then he is expected to be clean shaven...

As to personal electric razors, I know TDCJ used to sell them, but I believe they have since been discontinued...the motors tended to find their way into tattoo guns on a very regular basis.

My husband has a clippet pass too.but in your regards still have him file a grievance ...send you originals and make copies mail them out to the oubundsman office, call the oubundsman office within a week period make sure its a certified signature thru mail to confirm it was recieved...the odds are they will investigate and give u an anser within a week...believe me it works and get names of everyone he talks to n you talk to so it can be in a letter written by you in regsrds to your husbands situation ...
