Default Sometimes doing time has saved lives

Sometimes, doing time has saved our lives. We might have died otherwise, sometimes we need that wake up call!

I have pointed this out to countless parents here. As ugly and harsh as prison is it is less bad than knowing your loved one is in a morgue.

And sadly, for many seriously involved in a life of drugs a morgue is where they end up.

Many women I met in prison agreed and often said this exact same thing.

My husband has said the same thing. If not for prison he would probably be dead.

A guard told me he got to tell a guy his mom was visiting and he hadn't seen her in years.

addictions runs rampant in our family, both sides. I've known for years there are only three outcomes for addicts (a recovering alcoholic since 1993): recovery, institutionalized (prison included) or death. It's a horrible disease, but it is what it is. I, for one, am grateful today. My son is doing his time, but he's clear headed and living life on its terms.
