I have an ancestor who was hanged as a witch in New England before Salem ever even was on the map.

Beyond that, criminal as in what? I have speeding tickets. My brother has done major time for drugs. My dad was cited in the death of his mother (vehicle related death), and I have a bunch of relatives who were riverboat pilots and the like on the Mississippi. Guaranteed there are some criminals among them as shipping stuff up and down river, and runaway slaves up and down river usually involved criminal activities.

My husband is related to Bonnie Parker. Great, great aunt something like that. I’m not much of a crime buff, but it’s kinda cool seeing her in old family pictures.

I used to say that DNA proved that I am related to Jack the Ripper, but then actual DNA turned out to prove that I actually am not.

Well I don't know that this would qualify as an ancestor but I have someone in my history of fiance's or lovers that has a criminal noteworthy history. When I went to California and 1983 with my older sibling My First Girlfriend / fiance was a member of the Manson family her name was Susan Bartell. AKA country Sue. She was not actually involved in the murders that took place she was a little bit too young for that I think. She was only 16 or 17 when she became involved with the Manson family but she's in the history books so anyway. Out of everyone that I met in California during the time that I was there she was the one person that was a really good influence on me and encouraged me to do well and that was a very trouble time in my life at the age of 23 wish you was a good person and she was also extremely beautiful.

I have a great great aunt that tied her abusive husband up in the bedsheets and beat him to death with a fire poker, after he came home one night drunk again, and beat her. Does that count. I know she actually went to a criminal psychiatric facility for a while.

I'm sure there were others, but she's the one I know about. Other than that the usual stuff in a family, speeding tickets (just about all of us), DUIs(my son and several uncles), ect,, my sister is was also known for a while for writing bad checks.

I do genealogy and one of the reasons I started was because we were allegedly related to Jesse James. I have done it for several years and have been unable to confirm it despite the rumors that he visited my great-great-grandmother's farm.

Another family member on the other side of my family alleged we were related to the James family but his research proved to be wrong.

related to the Youngers and James gang through my paternal grandmother.

One day in Kansas, my grandmother's direct family packed up in the middle of the night and moved to Illinois.

On my stepfathers side I know that there was a serial killer, I don’t think anyone though on my biological mom or dad side. My grandpa ran moonshine for Al Capone but never was caught for doing it.
