Default Frustrated with amends to HB 194 & SB 312

I checked Louisana's site Tuesday and seen that they made changes to both these bills that now would exclude my man from benefiting from both of them.

HB 194 lowers the percentage of sentence that has to be served from 85% to 75% for those convicted on or after Aug. 2010. I feel they should lower it for those serving time now as well.

SB 312 would allow them to gain goodtime and would be retro back to Jan 1992 but now excludes those convicted of a crime of violence or sexual offence. Where as the present law allows them Convicted on or after Aug. 2006 to earn goodtime.

I emailed every La senator & House rep tonight about both bills. I would like to start a weekly email, phone calls and letter writing campaign to all of them till we get these bills changed to benefit all our loved ones. I really would love to see it dropped back from 85% to 50%. These long in humane sentences are wasting tax-payers monies that we need to start pushing state and federal government to invest in Quality Education for our children rather than building more prisons, housing inmates for too stiff , long sentences. I know i will be sending them all weekly emails thats for sure.

I applaud actions like this. Louisiana has been in the dark for far too long. I will start emailing and writing too, but we need more than two people to do this. It's time for us in this state to start stepping up and taking action.

I have recieved a few replies to my email already. I'm pasting them below. I agree we need more than just 2 of us. I see now we also need to flood the DA's assoc. office with emails as well.

Dear Ms. Perry, thank you so much for your letter re: HB 104. You have expressed my concerns as well. In making the attempt to assist DOC with their reforms, the DA's assoc. was totally against all of our bills unless they were prospective meaning that no one presently would get out. My thoughts were to get the bills on the book and try to get some changes for next year, I'll be working on this during session break. I share your concerns.

Thank you for taking the time to write to me to express your concerns on HB 194 and SB 312. I will take your opinion into consideration if I have the opportunity to vote on the bill. I have my Legislative Assistant keep a running tally of all people who express opinions on legislation both within my district and outside of my district so please respond with your physical address. Thank you.

Is this for the state of Louisiana? Regardless, I would like to help. Tell me where to sing up or where to write to, I am however from NY. But whatever I can do, I am here. God Bless.

Oh this is like a slap in our faces. I'm too new to all this. Louisiana is evidently the worst state to live in and it seems to have a desire to see as many people in prison as possible. Where can i find addresses for email. Sorry it is very late and guess my brain is oatmeal. thanks

I'm anxious to get involved...tell me the 5w's and I'm on it!!! We need more support in LA; we have too many loved ones incarcerated and not enough representation.
