Default Phone calls-What do they show on the caller ID?

Does anyone know how the calls show up on the caller id? Do they say private or out of area? Or does it come up with the name of the place? I am wondering because I don't want my job to know who is calling me, and the caller id at work saves the info if my friend was to call and I didn't pick up.

THanks

Are you the only one likely to pick up the phone? Before it connects, it will say, "this call is from a Federal prison" and then give the opportunity to block future calls. Otherwise, it should show from "out of area".

The best way to receive the call may be to take it on your cell phone if you are able to have personal calls at work.

At work I am not the only one that can pick up the phone. I think I will just tell him call me on my cell only. I think on my cell phone anything that doesn't show a number comes up restricted. I am not sure if that is only private numbers or out of area numbers. Any clue? I don't know what an out of area number would show up as. Thanks.

Also, is it true that the inmates in federal jail only get 300 minutes a month?

Default Phone Calls what comes up

I finalley heard from my Brother after almost 3 weeks this past wednesday. Ir showed up as Unknown caller.Unknown name. I answered it --I heard them say this is a call from a Federal Prison the caller is Sam. Push 7 to block this call--Or push 5 to accept!! So I pushed 7 and My brother was then on phone with me. Yes they get 300 mim I just learned, and 400 the Month of Nov, and DEC.
Hope it helps. I just "forward "my home phone to my cell phone and he got to call me it went to my cell. I was at K-Mart!!That way I never miss a call.

I figured that you pushed 5 . I haven't spoke to my friend in a while actually last time I spoke to him he was in the same place he is now and he was soon getting released, we lost touch that was 6 years ago, funny how some of them never learn their lesson.

Mine comes up as "out of area." A reminder - call forwarding is against BOP rules. If you want him to call your cell phone, have him put your cell phone number on his approved list. Z.

Thank you all. He has my cell number, when he does call I will just tell him call my cell only. I thought he may have called because I got a restricted call on my cell, and on the voice mail was an automated voice but I couldn't hear what it said it was too quick.

By the way thanks for the info about the call forwarding, I already knew about that from the last time, but I don't have to worry about that anyway, its strictly call me on my cell or work thats it.

Mine says "UNKNOWN CALLER."

And, last year they got 400 minutes in November and December, and Thanksgiving and Christmas were "free" meaning they didn't count in the 5 limit. It was an absolute ZOO at Schuylkill on Christmas Day. OMG!

What does that mean they were free and they didn't count in the 5 limit?

"free" and "don't count in the 5 limit" really mean the same thing, to me.

Where my guy is at, they're only allowed 5 visits per month, but if you go on thanksgiving or christmas, you could conceivably visit 6 times each month.

Yeah my ex is in MDC and he's allowed 300 minutes every month. Yesterday he tried calling me while I was on the way home from work and the call dropped as soon as I pressed 5. Not knowing they can call back I went into the shower when he did call back. So I missed 2 calls. He called back an hour later screaming cause they can only call once per hour and it bites their minutes when someone doesn't answer. I never got an automated voicemail!!!!!! He said he was gonna call today and never did, but I hope they get extra minutes during December so he can stay on the phone with me longer than 10 minutes at a time. (

I didn't think they got charged if no one presses "5." And he should get a 15 minute call, not 10. But maybe it's just 10 in a Detention Center...?? He should be getting 400 minutes per month in November and December.

I didn't think so either...infact, if it charged them for the unanswered call, how would they be able to call right back without waiting the set time frame, in your case...1 hour (ours currently is 30 minutes)?

Regardless of the time per month allowed...if the phones at the detention center are set to 10 minutes, thats the amount of time per call he'll get. Some places are set to 20 minutes...that was our experience at USP Florence. Majority rings in at 15 minutes.
