Default Case Manager's

Hi, everyone. Has anybody had any good experiences with case managers? Are they helpful? Can they answer questions? Did not have good luck with the first one, hoping this next guy is better. We are trying to get an intersate compact plan before he gets released, case manger needs to do the leg work or at least that is what we told at the last place. Thanks for any info.

In general my experiences with them have not been the best. I have had some generally good experiences with the head classification officer (what we call case manager's here).
Actually I had an excellent experience with his most recent c.o. but last week her was escorted off the compound for reasons unknown...seems to happen to all the good ones
I suugest if you do not get anywhere with his CM talk to whomever is above him.

I have several encounters with them and none have been very positive or pleasant. And the don't really answer your questions they work their way around them and you are back to square one.

I just talked to the new guy. He pretty much told me that my husband was a grown man and can take care of his own business. Nice, very nice....

Although he did tell me that he sent for the paperwork to get the intersate compact plan going. But that he had 107 people that he had to work on. No wonder they are so grouchy.

Wanted to bring this message back for new feedback. A lot of times we speak of prisons, and all their employees as being selfish and inconsiderate, and in many examples this is true. This also includes case managers as well. I have met good officers, and bad officers. I have had good case managers and bad case managers. If I had to give a percentage of the good and the bad, as far as case managers I had, I may say about 20% of the case managers I had were good (or at least fair), and 80% were bad (or at least deceptive). I think over my sentence I had almost 10 case managers, and I can say at least 2 were trying, but we sometimes forget case managers are not wizards; they can't give inmates work release just because the want it, it has to be available. However, a bad case manager can ship you in a hurry, and some in Sanford, and Robeson (NC) are amongst the worst demons (excuse me) in the system. But there are good case managers, but you'd have to be lucky to get one.

It is unfortunate that you have seen some of the ugly sides of prison, which do indeed include not only the officers, but administration who feel that since they will never really see you, they don't have to tell you the truth. I believe that inmates can do so much, and then they need outside help. I say this because outside sources can do so much more to put pressure on the administration. The receptionist mentioned contacting public officials; take them up on it. I know you said you haven't got a response yet, don't give up. Sometimes the wheels of justice turn very slow, and may need more pressure applied. I have many letters from government officials, from Sen. John Edwards to every other person I wrote. It can work, believe me, but you have to hang in there. Prisons are counting on you doing exactly what inmates do; give up at the first obstacle. If you continue with vigor, I believe you'll get some answers.

My man's CM has been, to the best of her ability, helpful. I feel for her; she's in charge of the vast majority of the level 3's in that level 4 facility. She's trying to get them moved, as she told me (and as I've been told by the assistant commissioner of corrections) there's bedspace issues and they're moving them out according to their SRD. Last I talked to her, the 2005 SRD guys were up to be moved (that was in November of last year). Now, I understand they're up to 2008 (got that from my state forum), so just a bit longer and he should be moved. She also took seriously my telling her of troubles my guy and his cellie were having with some others in their unit trying extortion crap with them, and moved them to PC and the troublemakers were relocated to another unit. All in all, I like her.....she doesn't take any crap from the guys, and shows her irritation with the constant kites she's getting from these guys, sure, but with me, she's been very cool. She said her priority in moving him was getting him in a facility that 1. would get him his treatment mandate met, and 2. bring him closer to family. I have to respect her for that.
