Employee is charged with theft of jail funds
Atlanta Journal-Constitution

An administrative assistant in the Forsyth County (Ga.) Sheriff's Office has been charged with stealing about $53,000 from a jail recreation and education fund.
Mary Lee Reynolds, 50, was responsible for several accounts, including the Inmate Trust Fund, said Sheriff Ted Paxton.
The fund came from sales of snacks and other commissary items purchased by inmates. It is meant to pay for classes for high school credit and other programs.
"In her position, she was dealing with cash and allegedly converted it to her personal use," said sheriff's Capt. Frank Huggins.
Reynolds had worked for the Sheriff's Office for six years, Huggins said.
She resigned Friday, the day she was arrested on one count of theft by taking. She was released on $54,000 bond.
Investigators believe she acted alone, Huggins said.
A routine audit revealed the shortage, Huggins said.
"The investigation is continuing to see if any other funds are missing or unaccounted for," Huggins said.
