Default The Day I Earned My Wings

"I see an army of angels walking
I hear a thousand of voices talking
I can see hundred of snow white wolves swimming in the sky"
Army of Angels by Nadeshda Brennicke

[left]It's been a hard week in some ways. The dog days of summer are upon us in Ft. Worth, Texas and they're just about what I'd thought they'd be....a lot angry people.....people beside themselves with dehydration and too much sun....at my home group (Alcoholics Anonymous) I've seen more people break down in tears while sharing at meetings over what life is throwing at them in the midst of sobriety than at any other time since I've been going there.....a dead body was found a 1/2 block away from where I live by the cops one day this week about 12 noon. Yes......it's a trying time just now for many here in Texas. But....I think maybe someone is trying to tell me or show me my place in all this. I'd like to think maybe...just maybe I earned my wings today. It is said that God speaks through other people and I'm also mindful of the fact that God can only work for you WHEN HE CAN WORK THROUGH YOU.
There's several hundred if not a few thousand people that are homeless who live in the area where I do. Union Gospel Mission, Salvation Army, Presbyterian Night Shelter, Safe Haven(MHMR), Billy Gregory Recovery Center/Detox, several other MHMR facilities (MHMR-Mental Health Mental Retardation) The Patriot House (Veterans Affairs) and the place where I stay, The Liberty House (Veterans Affairs). There's also at least a few hundred people that live outside in tents or on mats upon the sidewalk. It's somewhat of a condensed area that is probably a 1/2 mile long x 1/4 mile wide....something like that.
This morning I got up and left for the bus stop at 5:30 am while it was still dark outside. I'm in between jobs again and had a chance to pick up $15.00 doing some weed eating, trash pick up and what not at my home group. So, I sat down on the bench waiting on my personal limo to show up. This is one of those buses/public transportation that looks like an accordion bus or two buses put together, it holds so many people.
Next thing I know, I hear this "thud" a few feet over away from me on the bench and here sits a woman that I've seen from time to time that is homeless....challenged mentally,,,,40ish-50ish.....from North Carolina I think she said......a little bitty thing. I've never spoken to her and she always looks a bit cautious at everything around her when I see her out and about.
As soon as she down on the bench she looked at me and said:

I never sit here at this bench....there's always bad people here....I usually stand back over there (she pointed back behind us) and watch for the bus, but it's O.k., You're here now and I know You're my guardian angel."

I'll claim that, too. When someone who is homeless, afraid, mentally ill, whom I've never spoken to before approaches me and says something profound.....God has to be in that somewhere. I'm trying harder right now to stay on the spiritual path than ever before, I kid you not...seriously. So....today, I earned my wings.....now I just gotta learn how to fly.
We're All In This Together
