Question TS Time and Mandatory Minimum confusion

My husband was given a mandatory minimum sentence of 2 years. He's been in jail for 6 months and spoke to his counselor about putting in for TS. The counselor told him that he only had to do 10 months out of the 2 years because of Good time and TS. I was very excited only to find out that his counselor's supervisor got in contact with my husband to tell him he does not qualify for TS or Good Time because he has a mandatory minimum sentence..meaning he has to complete the whole sentence...I'm confused because I thought that everyone is eligible for TS. HELP!!!!

Good morning,
I was under the impression that sentences of 2 years and more are under control of the parole board and sentences of less than 2 years are eligible for TS. But this is all new to me as well so I understand your confusion. I know that some cases do require a mandatory minimum.. I think it depends on the nature of the crime. Also, most sentences are eligible for either 50% completion or 85% but I'm really not sure how that works with minimum sentences. I would check out the CT DOC website. There are a bunch of links with infornation. I've found the friend's and family handbook helpful. It goes into detail about TS, parole and release information as well. Sorry that I couldn't give you a straight answer but I hope you find some helpful information on the DOC site.

Hi and Welcome to Prison Talk! I am really glad that both of you made the decision to join us!

Unfortunately I only know about L O N G sentences, so I am not of much help. I will give you links to policy, though, that will hopefully help.

Good luck!
