Red face Who are some groups or programs that are centered around inmate rights?

i'm new here. can someone please tell me of any groups or programs that are centered around inmate rights (in terms of retaliation by c.o's or other staff, or for health issues, some legal help). i'm sure we have all needed them at some point if you have been in the system for years like i have. i am interested in some now and want them in my database for later. any help is much appreciated. thank you.

Welcome to PTO! There are several groups involved in inmate rights and criminal justice reform...some of them are:

ACLU

Vera Institute of Justice

Southern Poverty Law Center

The Sentencing Project

There are some good national groups as well as more regional ones. The regional ones also join with national groups to work together for change. The one in Georgia that I have joined is the National Incarceration Association https://joinnia.com/ . They are really working for change & leaders from there go to different prisons & even have started a program called Inside Out. The issues they address affect people all over the US.

They're gathering stories from people in & out of the system to help them work for change that's actually needed. One of the newest members is a former corrections officer from Mississippi. He told stories of how he tried to stop inmate abuse & was set up to be fired. Some inmates found out & helped him avoid it.

Some other good ones are :
Southern Center For Human Rights https://www.schr.org/
Right On Crime http://rightoncrime.com/
All Of Us Or None

Prison Fellowship https://www.prisonfellowship.org/

In Washington state, the AVID Prison Project works for prisoners with disabilities.

The Quakers have been involved in prisoner welfare for hundreds of years.
