Default Marriage License ?

I already sent in the paperwork for marriage to the chaplain and I talked to her on the phone and she told me that everything would be fine and that we was approved but first we have to find a preacher to marry us. Where could I find one if I dont have one to do it? She told me that she would be on a search for one and for me to do the same. There are other inmates that are getting married too so I am hoping one preacher will marry all of us. On the other hand, I was told that bullitt county would give me a marriage license without my fiance there but when I called they told me that both parties has to be present. Does anyone know what county would give a marriage license with only one party there? Thank you.

Bullitt County is wrong. They have a form that you send to your loved one, he signs it and has it noratized at the prison then sends it back to you. I got the form from the Bullitt County Clerk's office. Of course they had never hear of it, but after doing some checking they did come up with the apprpriate form. I have attached it as a sticky thread in this forum. Here is a link to that thread (post #3 has a printable pdf.)

Patch, thank you so much you are a lifesaver. So after getting the form filled out o have to take it to bullitt county? Or what do i do afterwards. I don't understand why he told me that i couldn't do it, maybe it was the way that i worded it. Its kind of confusing because we have to find a preacher before she is going to get the warden to approve us but she said it shouldn't be a problem unless we are kin (&were not lol). So after getting a preacher and a date she is going to get it approved and then I'm guessing that's when ill fill the paper out? I'm knew to this so does that sound correct & again thank you for the clarification :-)

If you're familair with the Nin Moony Annex Bldg (where you get you car tags), that's where I picked up the form. The desk on the right when you enter the bldg.

The Marriage License is good for only 30 days, so don't get it until everything is a go and you have your approval from the Warden and the date. I believe the license costs somewhere around $35.

You can also just take your packet copy down there and the approvel letter from the prison to get your license. My friend just got married at a prison and that's what she did. The prison should be able to tell you for sure. Clerks never seem to know what they are talking about.

I heard you have to write a letter to the warden, what exactly do you write about in it? I mean besides the obvious like who you're marrying?

Both you and your bf have to write the Warden. From what I understand, you have to ask permission to marry and tell why you want to get married. He really should speak to his counselor to get the ball rolling.

Just throwing this out there, but County Clerks have the discretion to choose whether or not they accept an application for inmate marriage. Clerks do not have to accept a by proxy form (which is what an inmate application for marriage is) applicant for marriage under executive decision.

Unless they have changed their stance at the Oldham County Clerks Office they will not issue a marriage license in Oldham County for an inmate everyone I saw get married there had to get a license from another county

Oh boy! It should not be up to the government to determine whoever we marry and however we do it.... and yes I mean gay marriages too. Smh! Shouldn't be so hard to do this when BOTH parties are willing and ready... besides you are already stressed out from your love being in prison. Don't need more stress to your plate...
