Default His life matters

Hello and thank you for taking the time to read and hopefully respond to this. My name is Valerie and my husband is currently an inmate in NC DPS custody. April 27th 2019 he was attacked by 4 white correctional officers. He was stripped searched, maced while handcuffed behind his back and beat until ultimately his hip was broken. No drugs were found on him or even inside his body as the COs originally claimed. He has had four surgeries and will have lifelong effects from it. If Black Lives Matter why doesn't his? The COs still have their jobs and have been heard bragging about the incident. We need justice and to shed some light on prison reform! Please help me have a voice or point me in the right direction to have a voice for him.

Hi Valerie,

I just wanted to say how sorry I am about your husband being attacked. That is just horrific. I don't know anything about advocating in a situation like this, but you might want to contact Real Justice PAC (just google them as I am not sure I am allowed to put their link there). If they can't help you, they might know an organization who can. They are doing good work to try to reform the criminal justice system.

Best wishes to you and your husband. Just so sorry this happened -- it should never!

I'm sorry too. Assaults on prisoners by a gang of COs are illegal, but it unfortunately it still happens regularly in every prison system. Getting help, without triggering another beating is not always possible, so get your loved one's approval before making any formal complaints. Sad but true I'm afraid.

HisPeaches, have you tried submitting his story to the ACLU of North Carolina? If not, please do....if they won't take his case they may be able to advise you as to who can help. Also try Southern Poverty Law Center.

The Marshall Project. may be able to at least tell his story for the whole world to see. When there is enough anger to make the voices loud enough to be heard, change may follow.

I'm sorry the you & he have to endure such a travesty Good luck to you both.
