Hey to all European Folks!
Hallo, Salut, Ciao, Szia, Hola, Hej, Bog ...
It seems like this European Forum section is a little undermanned. So how about a most recent headcount?
Join the poll and let's show where we are all from (hopefully with a list of all countries considered)
And how about sharing some info about you?
1. Start with "saying" HELLO in your language!
2. Where are you from and where's your LO incarcerated?
3. What's the time distance?
4. Your status on PTO (pen pal, MWI, family etc.)?
5. How are the cultural divides going? Any odd misunderstandings so far?
6. Do you watch the Eurovision Song Contest?
I'm curious to read all your stories!

1. Hallo und guten Tag!
2. I'm living in Germany while he is housed in Oregon.
3. We are 9 hours apart, twice a year only 8 hours for 1-2 weeks (because of adjusting winter-/summertime)
4. I started as a pen pal and now, I'm a MWI.
5. We're doing good and never had serious language barriers. But we always have fun times talking about our favorite food and dishes - and their differences. I never heard of Pop-Tarts before. Also, everything in the U.S. seems to be spiced with cheddar cheese or Bacon (potato chips, crackers, nuts etc.) while he has no idea of Germany's unique art of baking bread! :-))
6. Yes, and how!
Hello.
I am half German, half Irish but full blood Yorkshire (born and brought up)!
We are MWI but have known each other many years and were married two and a half years ago.
We half a six hour time difference. I try to visit three or four times a year, dependent on my work. I run my own tour company and so spend a lot of time travelling around Europe.
I am constantly trying to get him to speak correct English, telling him frequently that y'all is not a word.
I have to buy Hello magazine on a regular basis for him as he loves anything to do with The Queen and William and Kate. Costs me a fair amount in postage each month!
No I didn't watch the Eurovision song contest, it is far too frustrating.

1. Hallo, hoi and goede dag.
2. I live in the Netherlands and he's in California.
3. 9 hours most of the year.
4. Pen pal.
5. Sometimes he thinks he has disrespected me and I get a letter full of apologies and I have to tell him to chill because he didn't do anything wrong. We're getting the hang of it though I've tried to translate a Dutch song, but it doesn't make sense in English. And I've tried explaining 'Nibbit' chips, that didn't go so well lol. Nothing too mayor though
6. Yes I do.

1. Moi!
2. I'm a Finn living in England. He's from Georgia but locked up in Virginia.
3. 5 hours.
4. MWI.
5. There's no language barrier and I lived in the U.S. for a while in the 1990s which helps, of course.
6. Yes, I do.
Hi I'm from England and my fiance is in Nevada. We are over 5000 miles apart and the time difference is 8 hours but we make it work. We are MWI and are getting married in October. We've not encountered any cultural differences at all. I never watch the Eurovision song contest as it's too political for me.

1. Hallo und guten Tag euch allen!
2. I'm from Northrhine-Westphalia/Germany and he is in IN.
3. Minus 6 hours.
4. Comitted Relataionship since quite some time resulting from a penpalship ages ago.
5. As a German being taught English most through living as a former wife to a British soldier (are you confused already?), there are some words, he had to ask about. And yes, we do argue a lot about different views. But making up after arguing is special.
6. H#ell no! I'm an Elvis fan since I was 12 years. I prefer rock music.
1. Start with "saying" HELLO in your language!
Moi!
2. Where are you from and where's your LO incarcerated?
Finland and he's in Texas
3. What's the time distance?
Mostly 8 hours, except when changing to summer (DST)/winter time, Texas changes the time couple week sooner than we do.
4. Your status on PTO (pen pal, MWI, family etc.)?
Married MWI couple
5. How are the cultural divides going? Any odd misunderstandings so far?
Ha! Lots of them, but we always find a way to make it work. Nowadays we have learned not to see red when one of us says something weird, we ask what is this about, we discuss and realize it's once again just a misunderstanding and we learn and move on.
For us cultural difrences are great, I mean they bring so much richness to our relationship and well... chemistry, if you know what I mean... Love it!
6. Do you watch the Eurovision Song Contest?
No, no and no. It's painful! Lol!

"How are you doing?" tends to never get old. While he'll reply (no matter what!) in a short "I'm all fine", I, with my so-called straight up and serious German nature feel invited to pour my heart out, tell him about any old thing and that has brought laughter to our conversations on the phone quite often.
6. Do you watch the Eurovision Song Contest?
Ugh, no. (Germany zero points!)
