Your fiance will have to find the answer from his prison. Are you an approved visitor? That might make a difference.

Default Trying to get married at FCI Fort Dix, HELP!!!

Today 08:57 PMcdalioness
Hi! I was wondering if anyone could answer a question for me. My fiancee is at FCI Fort Dix in NJ.I live in Massachusetts and was told by my fiancee that I have to make two trips down to NJ, once with a witness to sign the marriage certificate and the second for the actual ceremony. I wanted to know when I come to sign the marriage license, am I coming to the actual prison to sign or do I go to the city hall to do that? Any information you could provide would be greatly appreciated!!!

I am currently in the process of marrying my fiance who is in FCI Fort Dix. The ceremony date is 6/27. When the process is completed I will pass along any information I can. The info on this site has been a great help so I'd like to return the favor.

Default Getting Married at FCI Fort Dix

For anyone trying to get married at FCI Fort Dix:
1. You must write a letter of intent stating that you want to get married and mail it to his Case manager. They will deduct $28 from his canteen to cover the cost of the marriage license.
2. If buying wedding bands, his ring cannot cost more than $100 (I brought the receipt with me but they didn't check it)
3. You must travel to the prison twice, once with 1 witness to sign the marriage certificate and the second time for the actual ceremony with 2 witnesses. **We had someone visiting another inmate sign as a witness for our license because our witness was running late and they were fine with that. Also we could only come up with one witness for the ceremony but they allowed us to ask one of the other visitors again to stand in for us.**
4. They will present you with an unofficial copy but give you instructions on how to obtain the original by mail - its $5 per copy.
5. They were pretty lenient about what you could wear for the ceremony, I wore a fitted jumpsuit that was a little low cut. I also saw some dresses that were very form fitting and no sleeves, so I guess it also depends on the CO's - but I'm pretty sure they gave us a break for the occasion.
6. They will take pictures for you to choose from during and after the ceremony and you will be allowed an hour long visit with your LO, the ceremonies are not held on a visiting day so it was nice to have the room almost to ourselves!
I hope this helps someone and Yah Bless!!!

Default Married

We're talking about getting married too. Did you ever figure anything out? From what I've read, they have to put in a request for it with their counselor or case manager or whoever to get the process started.

You can send him the papers now. If he needs to have them notarized before sending them back to you, his bop counselor can do it.

Hello and welcome to Prison Talk Just to clarify - you are looking to find information for the marriage proceedings in FCI Forrest City Low (and not FCI Fairton)

Hopefully someone with information will comment soon

Welcome to Prison Talk Kimmi. Each warden decides the local marriage policy, so your fiance will need to ask his counselor, or the Chaplain.

And this is compounded by which state the federal prison is located in. MANY counties within many states MANDATE both parties appear in person, together, to get a license.

I know this is true for every county in SC and many in GA and FLA. In general terms it isn’t the BoP making it difficult, it is the county the federal prison is located in.

The inmate needs to start the process from inside, but the person on the outside needs to find out the requirements for the specific location of the federal prison in question.
