Default Instant Pot - Do you have one?

Holy moly, y'all. My life may have just changed forever.

I loathe kitchen gadgets. Give me a good wooden spoon, an all-purpose knife and a spatula that won't scratch the crap out of my pans and I'm happy. But today...

It's called an Instant Pot and per the instruction booklet, it'll pretty much do everything but the dishes. I was cool using it as a slow cooker, I've had one of those for ages. But pressure cooking has always scared the beeps out of me. Too many things to go wrong. I decided to go for it and made corned beef using the high pressure setting. Yeeeeow!!! It is soooo good!

Does anyone else have one of these? What's your favorite thing to make it in?

We just got one of these this weekend too! We made pot roast, I'm excited to follow along here! Hopefully there will be some good ideas! This is a recipe that one of my friends posted to her blog, and everyone I know raves about it. I haven't tried it (and I don't eat pork, so I'll sub with chicken) but plan to soon!

http://dudethatsdope.com/2017/02/01/...-pot-carnitas/ Here are all of her recipes though, she's a great cook, so I bet they all rock! http://dudethatsdope.com/?s=instant+pot

I LOVE tacos (ask MissingDee...or don't, he may be tired of the subject already). Can't wait to give this a shot!

Oh, weird! If that's happening for others-- please let me know!

It looks like a rice cooker, but you can slow cook, pressure cook (not can), make yogurt, rice, I dunno...probably more things than I'll ever use it for!
Here's the link to the product.

We got it because when summer hits here, nobody wants to cook. That meant we ate out way too often. This doesn't heat up the kitchen the way the oven does, so we're hoping we'll meal prep a little bit better.

You can search Facebook and Instagram for the hashtag #instantpot and see what people are doing. People bake in it, too!

There are no pho restaurants here so I'm sort of excited to try #7, here.

David, please tell me why she doesn't need any more gizmos - maybe I can apply it to me. Right now I am telling myself I have slow cookers in 3 sizes and that this is really just a slow cooker on steroids.

I make a lot of rice, but I have that down to an art so don't need it for a rice cooker. I am a rice snob though and am currently on a Basmati or Jasmine binge.

Actually, I'm going to take back what I said previously... I am all about empowering her cooking abilities.. Which are excellent.. Sounds like you have some skills too!

Ha! This made me laugh. Last year my parents and I moved in together so I could help out with their health issues. We combined two very full three-bedroom homes into one. My mom is a kitchen gadget hoarder. I literally showed up with my wooden spoon, spatula, knife and crock pot that she bought me when I was 21. We have had so many fights about the number of useless appliances that when I set my mind on trying this Instant Pot, I had to really time my proposal well or suffer the wrath of "I thought you didn't like kitchen gadgets" from now til eternity.

Our graveyard includes:
Panini maker. A brick in a pan works great.
Ninja 3-in-1 eater of counter space
Rice cooker turned burner
Bread machine...awesome gadget, actually, that smells like heaven but I eat the whole damn thing
Fondue set. We are not fondue party people.
Cookie press with 20 easy to use discs and impossible to use trigger
Margarita blender. I'll take my tequila straight up.
...and a whole box of hand-held things that work just like a knife but with such a specific use that unless you're competing for America's Next Top Garnish Maker, you don't need it.

Ah, I love my instant pot! It's great for procrastinators. Forgot to take the roast out of the freezer and then didn't get it in the oven in time for it to took?

Find an instant pot recipe and pretend like you intended to make it that way allllll along.

I've had it for about 6 months and still haven't made yogurt yet, though. I don't see that in my future.

ok, I am sold on the instant pot, thing. I WANT one, but the ghosts of my mother-in-law, my husband and grandmother-in-law who hang out in my kitchen (lol) would have an ever living shit fit. They already bust my chops for using a crock pot.
But I love my crockpot. I am still using mine from my great aunt on my side of the family. (She holds her own against them let me tell you!) Its one from the 70's so,,,even that one doesn't have all the bells and whistles.
So just know I want one too, I appreciate it for everyone who has one, I'll come over and eat the dinners coming from them right now, but I will just have to work one getting one. (It's hard when you have so many vocal people about whats for dinner!)
But yeah Miamac, I know what you mean by eating out way too often. My "go to" is a bowl of cereal.
I read the product specs on the link you provided and it really looks good.

Lucky! Don't be scared, jump on board! Try one of the recipes I shared above, I really hear good things about those tacos (I'm finally making them tonight!) There are 1000000 FB groups for recipes too, but they are so hard to sort through.

Start with the slow cook feature. Nothing too scary there. Try making a soup or stew in it.

I have always been scared of pressure cooking. I was 1000% certain the lid would blow off while I was standing there and I would lose an eye or something. But this was super easy. So from one scaredy-cat to another, I understand! But I do hope you try it and let us know what you made!

I am very new and inexperienced when it comes to tacos. I have ate them some times but I have never made them at home. It is rather quite funny but I have discussed at length the trouble with tacos and living with my mother. And so, I think I will make a beginner stew tomorrow and I have no excuse. [Chick Pea Stew!] The Instant Pot has been moved from a cupboard on to the kitchen counter.

One time my mother was not paying too much attention in the kitchen and did not know a glass dish was on top of the stove element. It got so hot it exploded and I nearly missed the flying shards of glass. And so, I have fear of all things pressure related!

This happened to my mom, too!! The dish was full of blackberry cobbler and we had purple stains on the ceiling for years.

I'm so proud of you for pulling out the Instant Pot. Chickpea stew sounds good!!

I thought about you and those deadly, dangerous tacos (at least from her mom's outlook) when I saw you had one of these. ;-)

I make my layered cabbage in a slow cooker as well as borscht, but then I don't have to listen to Mom. I wonder how tripe stew would be made in one?

Is the chick pea stew from your homeland?
