Default Is there such a thing as "Gate Money" when released??

Is there still such a thing as "Gate Money" when someone's released from prison?

Yes, but someone being discharged is only eligible for it once in any 12 month period. According to policy IS-RL-01 https://doc.iowa.gov/sites/default/f...procedures.pdf someone being discharged is entitled to gate monies (gate allowance, bus ticket, and the offender's banking account balance) along with properly fitted, presentable clothing appropriate for the season. As part of the release plan, inmates are usually encouraged to save up some money, but it seems release funds can be reduced if he owes money to the institution.

You can read all IDOC policies on their web site and the offender can read about release in the guide every inmate gets from his particular institution. The last time I checked, Iowa didn't post its offender guides online for family to look at, but sometimes an ex-inmate or a researcher will post one. For example, a Michigan law school posted this 2014 Offender Information Guide for Iowa's Clarinda facility:
